“Nice motel,Horrible cafe with worst service on planet earth”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2004

June 20th 2004.Just got back from the Madrid in Wildwood after 2 days of fun..the motel is very nice.we stayed in room 401 which is a category c 2 room efficency Aand it was very nice, the staff work hard to keep the place clean and the view is terrific, every room overlooks the beach.i do recc this place .however,if you go.do NOT take one of there packages which offer 2 breakfasts and one dinner.the dinner was good as you get to choose from limited menus at several area restauarnts.the cafe however,is a total disaster.everyone we saw there was complaining about the terrible service, and lousy food, the package gives you two breakfasts.think you can choose off the menu think again,,it includes a choice of 4 items each worse then the other.(.the only good thing is that the service is so bad you wont get the food anyway, and whatever you get will be wrong..on our 1st day.,the waitress from Bulgaria told us she was never told what it is she is supposed to do,it took 25 minutes to get menus even though there was no one else there..and no one told her i guess that once you give a menu,at some point you have to come back and take the order .everyone in the cafe got the wrong order.by the way the eggs and bacon on the complimentary breakfast comes with 1/2 (i kid you not) piece of bacon.,i couldnt find it until i lifted up the pat of butter).the owner of the cafe(whom the Madrid should fire tommorrow) was there at the time and admitted that the waiters and waitresses are new and from Europe and have not been trained( i would say train them)he said he also owns a pizza place in Cape May and one hopes the service is better there. .he did admit when told the service was horrible that he knew it but couldnt help it(give me a break.in summary, the Madrid is a nice motel and worth a look,as for there cafe, steer clearrrr,a disaster that should be put out of its misery, eat somewhere else or find a motel that has a better cafe((which shouldnt be hard as any cafe in America would fit this bill)

This place was horrible!!! The room smelled Musty, the ceiling tiles had mold and mildew on them. We asked about parking and there are assigned parking spots for each room and they are very small we had a dually the owner told us to park down the block there was no parking for 4 blocks so we squeezed in our spot. That night we went to the boardwalk only to find someone had taken our spot and we had no where to park. We called the owner because their sign says any unauthorized vehicles will be towed. She said it wasn't her problem and find another place to park. She yelled at us for calling and called the police. We stayed the night only to find Glue mouse traps and mouse droppings in the sofa bed I was supposed to put my 3 year old in!!!! She refused to give us a refund or discount!! I reported her to the health dept. Do not stay here it's like staying in the slums!!!

Having been there since my childhood I can say finally the place has changed upside down for the better. It was mismanaged over the years and run down from inside and outside. Finally it seems under the new management and ownership things are better than ever. Long awaited non-smoking rooms are there and the entire place looks new and feels new with the best view on the entire island of wildwood. I recommend everybody to check the place out. I wouldn't go anywhere else for my vacation.

We have been a July visitor to the Madrid for almost 25 years. The new owners are very nice. I did tell them that removing the hi-riser bed/sofa from the living room and putting in a double bed is a bad idea. We are not happy with that as others have mentioned in their reviews. Other than that and the higher railings required now by law on the balcony the place is about the same. We did notice summer of 2003 that the clientel seems to be different. But the view, oh the view -- we'll try it one more time summer 2004.

We had been going to the Madrid for about ten years and made our reservations for 2003 when we checked out in 2002. Same time as every year before - second week in August, Sunday thru Friday. When we arrived at the Madrid, we found out it had changed owners. All rooms were now no-smoking - I'm a smoker and think they should have notified people of this change before they took my money. Also, the "living room" that was always in the efficiencies was now a bedroom. The sleeper sofas that had always been there were gone and replaced with a double bed, so when you walked in to the living room, you had your table and chairs jammed up against the window and the double bed right next to them. Real classy look! The new owners also removed the jalousied doors that allowed you to open the slats and have a cross breeze from the ocean right thru the entire apartment. So many people loved this feature. No more - the doors were replaced by solid doors with defective locks - they locked whenever they felt like it. The final straw was smoke detectors that went off for no reason and toilets that didn't flush properly. I would not recommend this motel to anyone.
