My family and I booked a room at the South Beach Building 702 in mid August 2013. The grounds were attractive and seemed clean. The amenities were not bad. Pools nice and clean for the most part for the exception of having quite a bit of leaves in some of them. The big problem was the condo. First we discovered that the unit which was clearly advertised as having internet access and was the main reason we choose it did not have it. We searched for a modem or router or a WiFi ID specifically associated with the unit and there was none. We called the office and complained and were first told to use the free (UNSECURED) WiFi in the lobby, to which I said no thanks and explained the unit was advertised to have internet and that is what I paid for. At which point they said they would send a maintenance person to come help us. What we got was some kid with a 2 way radio who walked around the unit looking for a modem which we explained we already did. No surprise he found nothing and told us he would inform the office and they would calls us. The office called and told us they would contact the owner of the condo. after some time passed we received another call from the office telling us that the owner did not offer internet access but since they included it in the advert if decided to come down to the office and complain we would receive some sort of compensation. For the rest of the week I was forced to use my cell phone as a hotspot incurring high charges for going over the data plan mostly because of the extremely poor cell phone reception we received in the unit, and we were on the 7th floor.
Next we discovered some serious safety issues with the unit. We have a 2.5 year old and as I was setting up my son's room I discovered the window in his room to be open with no gate, no screen and to top it off the locks for the windows were not installed properly and would not lock. Who in their right mind rents to people that might have kids with them and not make sure the windows lock properly especially in a 7th floor unit?! Luckily I have a small tool set in my car and was able to fix the problem and get the windows to lock properly. It seemed that every window and even the main balcony door suffered from locking issues. Another issue was the beds. They were extremely HARD, creaky and uncomfortable. It was so bad my wife and I alternated sleeping on the sofa just to try and get some sleep. Also if you like a dark room to sleep you are out of luck in this unit especially since the balcony lights stay on all night and the window coverings do little to block any light. Another issue was the walls were a bit thin as I could here a dog barking in the unit below, and the dog barked all week and sometimes late at night which kept my son up a couples of time as it was loudest in his room. Lastly parking in the underground parking lot is hit or miss since there is no assigned parking some space are clearly better than others and some can damage your SUV if your rear door opens upwards as their are spaces with cement cross sections which come down so low you door will slam into them. The garage only has a 6 foot 3 inch clearance. I don't think my family and I will be renting from this place again as it the condo was overpriced and the quality was not great.
