We just got back from a 5-day/4-night stay at the Ala Moana Resort Motel in Wildwood, NJ and we couldn't be happier with our stay. There were 5 of us (4 adults and 1 child) and we stayed from Wednesday to Sunday, with a late check out for a minimal fee - it was well worth it as we got to spend another morning enjoying the pool before heading back to reality.
First of we were very impressed by the cleanliness of the motel -not just our room, but other areas, such as the pool and the game room (where the bathroom was just as clean as the one in our room). The housekeeping is meticulous. The owner, Patricia, and her family were very courteous, friendly and efficient. Anything we needed of them was no problem.
Rooms were furnished with all the basic necessities, such as cutlery, dishes, full-size refrigerator, stove, toaster, flat-screen TVs, etc. We stayed at the 2-room deluxe efficiency suite, which includes a bedroom with 2 double beds, and a living room with a hide-away bed, armchair, nice-size table and chairs. It literally felt like home away from home - we had everything we needed.
The pool is good size (up to 7' deep, with a kiddie area for the little ones), and has plenty of lounge space. It closes at 8pm, which is fine as it's relatively quiet in the evening. If you like the more boisterous loud partying spring break type of crowd you may stay at many other motels closer to the boardwalk, but they look too shabby for my taste and the constant drunken horse-play you could hear as you drive down the street is obnoxious.
The Ala Moana welcomes everyone but it's definitely family-friendly. It was our first stay there but we learned there are many returning regulars, which we will most likely become as well.
The location is great! It's close enough to the boardwalk and the 3 amusement park piers to walk there (otherwise there is a trolley that stops right by the motel or it's just a short drive to any of the parking lots by the boardwalk). There are stores and restaurants within walking distance as well.
There is a game room complete with a pool table and several arcade games - perfect for those rainy days. A laundry room can also be found on the premises, which is very convenient, and there is a bbq area if you'd like to cook & eat outside.
The prices are very reasonable. We stayed mid-June so not during the high-season summer months, but even then the rates are good, and with all the amenities, location, and service - it's worth it.
Bottom line: with so many choices to stay in Wildwood I feel we picked the best one, judging by how other places looked (and sounded) nearby. We were very happy with our stay and will definitely be returning - perhaps even this year.
