My wife and I recently stayed at the DeBary Inn, Summit, NJ. We enjoyed the ambiance of the house and grounds. These, we enjoyed.
However, there were a couple issues that made this inaugural visit less than satisfactory.
These issues were:
On initial contact (by phone) to make a reservation, I was assured that I would be contacted with the reservation confirmation and related information. This did not happen; I waited a week before contacting the Inn again and speaking with a different person to complete the reservation.
We arrived at the Inn after the staff had left for the day (not a problem, the instructions for the outside door worked fine). Our first night (Saturday, July 14) there was no air conditioning or fans in our room (outside temps and humidity were very high; consequently the room was
stifling hot). I later understood that no rooms had any AC, since the "remote controlled" AC units had been turned off earlier. Text messages were sent to the available phone numbers Saturday evening, but no reply was ever received. No explanation was made or remedy offered. (We were seriously considering cancelling the remainder of our stay). Very unprofessional and definitely not a good first impression.
Of the four mornings that we stayed, we anticipated having breakfast (OK, continental breakfast) at 7:00 (weekday) and 8:00 (weekend) on two of the mornings. On Sunday, breakfast was not set out until after 7:15 and on the weekday (Tuesday), breakfast was not set out till after 7:10. I realize that the times seem somewhat minor, but the expectation was 8:00 and 7:00, respectively, and we had made our plans and schedules accordingly.
Since I knew we would be leaving on the last day early (about 6:30 AM) and it would be likely that no one would be available to check us out, I made arrangements to pay my bill the morning before. It now appears that paying the bill early also canceled any housekeeping effort to attend to the room (bed / towels / trash), since the room was in the same state that
evening (our last) as we had left it that morning.
Once again, I consider this highly un-professional in any establishment, but especially in one that bills itself as a *Premiere Executive Inn.
