“No longer a BYO, but excellent food and ocean view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2013

We visited the Black Trumpet during Restaurant Week with another couple and found the menu appetizing and appealing, and the ocean view from the enclosed porch refreshing. The baby lamb chops appetizer, grilled with a Hummus dipping sauce, pita chips and mint was outstanding; the Spring Shrimp Cocktail in a Vietnamese spring roll wrapper with a horseradish dipping sauce was an intriguing spin on a classic. The entrees (porcini dusted scallops, grilled tuna steak, and stuffed veal loin) all were well prepared and eagerly enjoyed. My wife thought the marscapone sorbet dessert was the best ever, and the rest of us enjoyed the blueberry crustade. Formerly a BYO, the Black Trumpet now has a liquor license and the wine list includes some reasonably priced selections. House wines are $7.00 a glass.

“Luncheon across from the Atlantic Ocean”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2013

We had a delightful lunch at the Black Trumpet restaurant, which is located in the Grand Victorian Hotel on Ocean Ave. in Spring Lake, NJ 07762. The restaurant has one of it's dining rooms in an enclosed porch which overlooks the Atlantic Ocean. They feature a full lunch for $14.99 which includes an appetizer, salad, main course (selection of 5 or 6 items), starch, veg., and dessert. Everything was delicious. We picked a sunny, very cold day to go to lunch, but the enclosed porch was warm, with the sun streaming in the windows, and a beautiful view of the ocean.

“its been years, and still one of the top spots in NJ”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2012

It had been years since my wife and I dined at the Black Trumpet, so long ago in fact that we didnt realize they moved to much larger, mnoir accomodating and scenic location.

What the public doesnt know or realize at this moment is that the restuarant was closed for about 10 days due to Hurricane Sandy but has been up and running soon thereafter. The destruction took its toll on the shore, but Black Trumpet is up and running strong.

The service and ambience are exvellent. It's a BYOB but still be prepared to pay New York city prices. You must have the grilled caesar salad and the homemade pasta as appetizers. If you like steak, the bone in 16oz filet is unbelievable and I hold it to any NYC steakhouse. Mt brother in law raved aboout the pork chops and my wife loved the lobster tower also. We finsished off with a peanut butter crem brulee that was unique and tasty.

I would highl;y reccommend the Black Trumpet for a special occasion, date, client dinner, family get together, etc....

“5 star eating in spring lake”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

it is very hard to find good food at the jersey shore. this place is fabulous. this past summer, they had a liquor license. now it is back to a BYOB.
the filet on the bone and the lobster tower are a must. we have never had anything less than an excellent meal. my husband and i share the special pasta dish as an appetizer and then we share the caesar salad and then we order our own entrees. we do this because there are such good selections on the menu.
we come starving. and.. we always have a dessert.
the atmosphere is so nice. romantic if you are in the right room. ocean view if you are on the porch in the summer.
the staff is there to please you.
