“Great stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2013

My husband and I just returned from a 2 night stay at the Breakers. The hotel is in a fabulous location right across the street from the beach. There is a nice long porch with chairs and small tables that looks out onto the water. We booked last minute and got a cozy king room, which was all that was left. It was on the small side but was fine for what we needed and a great low season price ($135/night). When we booked the room we were told of the potential for noise since it is above the ballroom (a complaint I read about in other reviews) but there was nothing booked past 5:30 pm on the first night we stayed so noise was not an issue. Of note, the room looks more updated than it appears on their website (they have gotten rid of the pink curtains and bed spread).

The hotel has a nice pool which we enjoyed and easy access to the beach. They provide beach passes which are needed on the weekends at this time of the year. The boardwalk on the beach has been rebuilt since damage from Hurricane Sandy and it very pretty. Note that the town of Spring Lake does not allow coolers or food on the beach when attendants are present (although you can leave your cooler on the boardwalk or the gazebo and go back and forth into it).

We had lunch on the first afternoon at the hotel. The food was basic but good and reasonably priced.

Overall we had a nice stay and I would recommend this hotel. I look forward to returning!

Invookedmthhisnhotel months ago looking forward to a quiet weekend beach front. Didn'tt happen. When we finally got to our room, there was a wedding reception in full swing directly under our room. When I reported the problem of the loud band under us, the hotel did nothing but offer us a later checkout. Not even a free drink or meal. If you come here, inquire about the plans for private parties scheduled when your there. Plus the dining facilities were closed due to the wedding. Won't be coming back here.

I stayed at the Breakers in April 2013 for one night with my old childhood friend as part of our tradition of "moms getaway weekends" that we try to do each year. We weren't sure what to expect after Superstorm Sandy struck last year, but there was little damage (if any) to the hotel and the boardwalk across the street was in the process of being rebuilt. To save money we booked a room with two beds and no view, but we were upgraded for free to a really nice room with queen beds and beautiful ocean views. The service was excellent, especially at the front desk, even though there was a wedding in the hotel that night. The only exception was very slow service at dinner in the hotel restaurant. But the food was good and we weren't going anywhere so we didn't mind. I love historic old buildings and this hotel has been restored nicely.

Room Tip: Rooms on higher floors have better views of the ocean.

I enjoyed a wonderful weekend escape at the Breakers in April 2013. The staff was very welcoming and the hotel room and linens exceeded expectations. The ocean view during breakfast was breathtaking. I will be certain to return in the future. Thank you!

Our overall experience was lovely, and because we know the property and the area, we will come back - HOWEVER, had we known (or been advised at the time of our booking) that the property would be nearly completely taken over by a Saturday wedding and all it's guests, we might have had different expectations of what our visit would entail.
On a Saturday in the warmer months, one would expect (and even inquire) to run into a bride, bridesmaid, or groomsmen, but for a very early April stay, to find we could not take advantage of the dining room, the piano lounge for a Saturday evening was disappointing. We of course made alternate plans and our suite was lovely...next time, we know to ask -- front desk staff certainly should do a better job of advising either when we booked (one week in advance) or upon check-in.

This place truly understands customer service! I stayed at The Breakers in Spring Lake, NJ with my 4 young kids by myself. We reserved a room with 2 queen beds. We walked in after a wonderful first day in the town and on the beach and headed up to our room. A few minutes later the front desk called up to our room because they noticed I had 4 kids in a room with 2 queen beds. They offered to open up the adjoining room for FREE! It had an even better view of the ocean and a king sized bed. It truly made the vacation for me.

Even without that incredible gesture, I would highly recommend this hotel. Staff was very friendly and location was perfect. Decent view of the ocean from our room, short walk to the shops on 3rd avenue, right across the street from the beach and boardwalk (when it gets rebuilt). There aren't any places right on the beach in Spring Lake to my knowledge, so you can't get any closer. We stayed in the off-season so I can't comment on the outdoor pool/hot tub. The rooms were very spacious and clean. Beds were comfortable and had the newer style comforter with cover instead of those old style hotel bed spreads that never get cleaned. Room included a mini-fridge and free Wi-Fi. The large jet bath in the bathroom was a huge hit with the kids and was very clean. There is a nice front porch facing the ocean which was a great place to have a snack and enjoy the view. We did eat at the restaurant one evening and the food and service were great. Thank you to the people at The Breakers for making our vacation wonderful!
