“Unbelievable Food, Great Experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2012

This restaurant has become a staple in Somerville dining. Located just across from the Borough Hall, this place boasts ample seating, decent service, and outstanding authentic Cuban dishes. The lunch buffet special is an extraordinary value. If you happen to be there when Martino himself is around, you can relax and watch him dance with the ladies in your party to authentic Cuban music. This place is a lovely getaway from the hustle and bustle of life and everyone there is always friendly. BYOB as well, they'll even keep your beers cold for you in their fridge.

“The best Tres Leches cake in the WORLD!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2012

This place got me hooked on tres leches cake and now I HAVE to try it every time it's listed on the menu somewhere. I have honestly never found better than this place. It's perfect!!!

I also enjoy the food here a lot. Fried yucca, tostones with guacamole AND the shrimp scampi...it sounds weird that they would be serving shrimp scampi in a Cuban restaurant, but it is so unlike the Italian preperation. They make it with cilantro which is just AMAZING. I also always get the pollo al ajillo aka chicken with garlic...again, so unlike other variations I've had. I always ask for it spicy and they throw in raw jalapenos...amazing! The plantains are perfect as well.

Service is slow but I never care. Atmosphere is lacking but again, I don't care. You will actually see Martino in there from time to time too, he's a riot. Go for the tres leches cake if not for anything else!!!

“A little piece of Cuba in Somerville”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2012

I decided for this place after looking online to celebrate Father's day. This was my second time visiting Somerville downtown, which happens to be quite welcoming. Anyway, my friend and I were greeted by Martino himself. Aside for being the owner of the place, he is talkative and pleasant, and seem to be respected by everyone around. The menu not only consisted of Cuban dishes, but also other Latin American ones. We had one the appetizers for two, which was fine. The main course was tasty, I had the cuban pork with congri rice, yuca, and fried mashed plaintains. For dessert, we shared the tres leches cake, along with cortadito coffee. Overall, the experience was nice. The only down side is that they should have more waiters, as we kept waiting for a bit longer than expected between meals.

“Have yet to have a bad meal here”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2012

I was introduced to Martinos about five or six years ago after being hesitant to try Cuban food. While some of it is not traditional Cuban, I've enjoyed everything I've ever eaten here, especially the pollo a lo martino and chorizo y tostones appetizer (and I normally do not eat sausage). If you don't have room for dessert, get the tres leches cake to go-it's amazing!

Martino is a charming older man who circles the restaurant during peak hours and talks to his diners. BYOB and very reasonably priced. Better for groups or those not looking for a romantic evening, as it tends to be loud, especially on weekends.

“Best Avocado Salad Ever”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2012

Any pork dish is fab, my favorite dish is bacala(cod fish). They prepare it with a hint of garlic and its always perfectly cooked. Served with black beans, rice and plaintains it is a hearty dish. Large serving portions as well. The avocado salad is a must have. We usually share one as it too is a large portion. Then there is the tres leches cake. This is authentically Cuban and awesomly delicious. The family that has owned this place for many years continues to do a spendid job both in the kitchen and on the floor. We usually take wine and have a relaxed evening. You will not be disappointed.
