I've been coming to Ocean City for decades, and I even worked at several Somers Point restaurants summers in my early 20s, so I'm very familiar with the Point Diner. It was always a good standby for breakfast after Dancing Til Dawn at the Dunes (am I telling my age?)
My family and I now come down at least twice during the summer. Wednesday night we just didn't feel like a "shore dinner" anywhere, so my husband and I went to the diner. He ordered one of the specials: eggplant parm with spaghetti, and I ordered a bacon and cheese omelet with well-done rye toast. Would you believe the only thing I ate was the toast and two bites of the omelet? It was clogged with a thick chunk of provolone cheese and the bacon pieces were completely underdone -- virtually uncooked! I simply couldn't eat it. The home fries were also undercooked and only faintly brown on one side. My husband's eggplant parm was three hockey pucks of (obviously) frozen and breaded eggplant, deepfried and also covered with very thick mozzarella. He pulled the cheese off, then didn't even take a bite, it looked so unappetizing. Do they think a lot of cheese covers up bad food? He ate his salad and a few bites of the spaghetti, whose sauce was reminiscent of Campbell's tomato soup. We left hungry and unhappy, and I'm sorry to say we won't go back. Boardwalk pizza would have been a better choice!
