I must admit that when a local establishment changes hands every four or five years, I'm thinking that it has to be the location. 'Clancy's by the bay' is the latest incarnation of this Somers Point landmark. The new owners gave the place a face lift, and it's clear that they had a vision for the type of restaurant they wanted Clancy's to be. What they should have done was look at the reasons their many predecessors failed to succeed and maybe divert some of the same pitfalls. On our third visit we started to see the signs. The 'upscale' vibe has started to give way to the local bar with food vibe. The newly designed building does not handle loud TV's and music very well since that probably wasn't what the rooms were designed for. The service is much improved since our first visit. The food is good, not exciting, but reliable. If Clancy's wasn't close to home I doubt that this would have been our third visit. With summer over the usual 'specials' and 'locals' offerings rear their ugly head, a reminder that 'we' now are welcome.
