I live around the corner from this hotel – I normally wouldn’t stay at a hotel so close to home but every year my husband gets me one night away from the kids for my birthday and for the second year I’ve stayed at the Hilton.
To be honest, unless you have an event or meeting I’m not sure why you’d stay here. Yes maybe I’m jaded because I live around the corner from the Short Hills Mall but if you are going to stay at a hotel and go shopping I’m not sure why you wouldn’t just go to the city.
The hotel is ok but is showing signs of wear. The rug in my room had some tears and the bathroom grout was falling out. But overall the rooms are nice. No great views, I’ve stayed on both sides of the hotel – one looks out at the mall the other on the trees but in the winter that’s not much of a view. The walls are pretty thin so during my last stay I had to endure some late night drunk next door neighbors waking me up after leaving a wedding in the hotel.
As expected, the restaurant and in room dining is expensive. I’d recommend going into Chatham or even over to the mall for cheaper dining options. I got a soda and small water and it was $17. But the food is good if you decide to go for the expense. The bar is very nice, comfortable seating with some TVs.
The spa is nice, I’ve gone before even when I’m not staying at the hotel. The services are good, I’ve never had a bad one yet. I will warn you that the set-up is weird. You check in downstairs but then you go back to the spa lobby in your robe and wait for someone to take you to the second floor. When you are done you then have to take the elevator down and walk through the spa lobby to get back to the locker room. I have met many people who are very uncomfortable walking past the lobby, salon and exercise room in nothing but a robe so if that’s you, it's just something to be aware of.
There’s an outside and inside pool. Obviously the outside one is only open in the warmer months. The inside pool is nice, you can eat down there and they have a Jacuzzi as well. The indoor pool is open Mon-Fri 6am – 9pm and Sa & Su from 7am – 9pm. Kids are only allowed from 6:30pm – 9pm M-F and 7am – 9:30am and 6:30pm – 9pm Sa & Su. Good if you don’t like kids, bad if you have kids and need to keep them entertained. The outdoor pool allows kids when it is open so if you go during the warmer months you can take them there.
The lobby, restaurant and bar area are all very nicely decorated and well maintained. The staff is also very nice and accommodating. Overall if you have an event or something that requires you to be in the area I’d recommend this hotel because there aren’t a lot of other nicer hotel options in the area.
