Description: The signature dish at Legal Sea Foods – really fresh fish. Our restaurant is located inside The Mall at Short Hills on the lower level. You may choose to beach yourself in our dining room or at our bar. Either way, we’ll think you walk on water - be sure to see our aquarium of koi fish built into the floor. Legal Sea Foods has long proven that a consistent, high quality dining experience never goes out of style. With over 40 varieties of fresh fish and shellfish available throughout the year as well as an award-winning wine list, there’s no doubt why legions of fans have fallen hook, line and sinker. We’ve received a boatload of accolades including the honor of serving our legendary New England Clam Chowder at every presidential inauguration since 1981.

Other than good service and a refreshing Mai Tai, there is nothing to recommend about this place. Unseasoned, milky-thin lobster bisque.... Overcooked, dry seared tuna. Cramped space with tables literally inches from the next. Not worth the $95 for two or anywhere close to it.

“Excellent meal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

My husband and I really enjoyed our meal here. We had oysters from the raw bar, which were excellent, the crab cake combo entree, and the stuffed & baked lobster. I wouldn't get the lobster baked again, since I wasn't impressed with the stuffing. But everything else was great. Great service too.

“Forgetaboutit!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2013

If you're looking for mediocre seafood at a high price then this is the place for you, ugh! What the heck happened to Legal Seafood? Maybe it's just this location but in any case, I wouldn’t go back to any of their restaurants, way too many choices out there to just settle for “yea that was okay but I paid what?”

“Not what it used to be”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2013

I used to love this place because it always had nice fresh fish. But it's former glory has diminished terribly. The service and atmosphere are still the same, but the food is a huge disappointment. I had a dish billed as Shrimp stuffed with crabmeat. It was a casserole with 4 shrimp on top of a lot of buttered breadcrumbs baked hard onto the plate in which there was a sprinkling of crab. It was nothing like it was billed. It came with a tiny cup of decent cole slaw, but it wasn't cheap. I guess for a "mall" dinner it might be ok, but I think you can do better. The drink was good, but that was it. The "lite" chowder was too peppery and the regular chowder was very thick. Interestingly, it was not at all crowded. Maybe the customers are staying away now!

“Not like Boston”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2013

I was disappointed in the food here. We used to go to Legal in Boston which was always great, perhaps its formula weakens the more the chain expands. The restaurant was very, very busy. Our server was great. Food was mediocre, at best.
