“Good Hotel in a Good Location to visit Manhatten”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2013 via mobile

Hotel is in a quiet area. Shuttle to downtown leaves near the Hotel. Breakfast is Good. A Lot of asian guests are there - could be very busy During Breakfast time.
Room was Spacious and with a Nice view to Manhatten Skyline.
Only One Bad Thing : only 1 Elevator was working - so Long Waiting Time to go to 14th floor.

Stayed for overnight trip so I could go into NYC. Short walk to bus station and convenient as bus takes you to Port Authority. Trip into city about 1/2 hour. Was suppose to stay on top floor but was placed in 6th floor. Wouldn't pay extra for the view not that impressive. There was obvious human stain on comforter and some hair in bath tub, but room was otherwise comfortable. Breakfast was good with hot and cold items served, man at entrance desk quite cranky. Because of convenience I would consider staying here again.

The hotel was hard to find. The signage was not easily visible. Hotel needs a lot of updating..carpet stunk in the lobby and hallways, bathroom tiles and sink have mildew, tv remote control was sticky. Luckily, I always bring my own lysol cleaning products. However, the beds were comfortable and the bedroom was relatively clean. Breakfast buffet was average.

The bus to NYC runs every hour.

The front desk staff were friendly and helpful.

Was worried about the distance out of New York with this hotel but was so glad we stayed there. A great breakfast included in the price and a laundry that we could use which is unheard of in most hotels. We loved staying here. After the hustle and bustle of New York it was nice to come back to a beautiful quite hotel. Rooms were excellent. Bus at the end of the road to take you into New York, around a 20 minute ride. Starbucks in the hotel and a pool. Will definitely stay here on my next visit.

Room Tip: King size beds very comfortable.

It was a lovely place to stay at. The bus that goes directly into Manhattan was only one street away. It took usually less than a half hour to get into the city and only about 20 minutes to get back in the evening. The breakfast was excellent and free. The hotel seemed to have not been refurbished in quite a while but was still modern, clean and spacious. The laundry facilities were excellent. We stayed for 5 days and would certainly return. The daily rates were some of the cheapest in the area.

Chose this hotel due to its closeness for the NFL game & thought the view would be great. We were on the highest floor (14) and their is a great view of the NY skyline...unfortunately, the sky was gray/cloudy & like "pea-soup" for both days but it WOULD have been great!

It is an older "convention" hotel which the Choice Hotels group bought and made into a Clarion a few months before we got here. That being said, lots of areas were closed or being renovated (maybe...we saw no activity going on...). Unfortunately, the areas they were (presumably) renovating had old, stained carpet and only one elevator worked (of the 2) so they had signs directing us to a 2nd elevator which turned out to be a "freight/utility" elevator at the back of the hotel (past old, dirty stained areas/closed restaurant). Room had a safe, but no mini-frig or microwave. Room was clean and bug-free. Lots of pillows and a comfortable bed.

There is a Starbucks on site and you have the traditional Choice Hotels free breakfast (which was one of the better ones with fresh cut-up fruit and meat, etc.), but other than that there is no restaurant at the hotel...or nearby. A few blocks down the street there is a Dunkin Donuts shop. We ended up going on Highway 3 to a mall ("Mall at Mill" & "Plaza at Harmon Meadow" which are really one large mall divided by a freeway so given 2 separate names) a few miles away which had lots of restaurants (including "The Bonefish Grill" which was absolutely FANTASTIC!) Make sure you have GPS or REALLY study a closeup of Google Maps, because it's a bit tricky finding the right road to get to this mall when coming from the west!

Oh...as for the NFL game. Because we've travelled through NJ & NY before we knew we didn't want to mess with parking & traffic going to/at/from the game. We wanted to find a different way to get to the game. We discovered that the NJ Transit has allotted specific trains to go to the stadium and back on game days. From our hotel, we only had a short & easy drive to a parking lot (Edison ParkFast, 675 New County Road, $20 for the day) next to the Secaucus Train depot (round trip $8, $2 seniors). So, this worked out great...however, just fyi....unlike other game-day trains we've taken, these are really slow (not "every 5-15 minutes" as advertised that's for sure!!!) The trains drop you off right outside the stadium.
