“clean hotel but the shuttle is a joke...don't expect it to be easy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013

My husband and I booked this hotel based on the location and the free shuttle. We stayed 5 nights the weekend of New Years to enjoy the city and watch the Giants play at MetLife stadium. My biggest frustration with this hotel is the lack of communication and organizaton among the front desk staff with regards to their shuttle service. Although courteous, their ability to manage the shuttle is ridiculous! Bottom line it should be first come first serve, there should be a list of which the driver checks and then you're off on your way. However, that is completely opposite of the way it works. We were told to call 15 mintues before the next shuttle was to come which is every hour of which we attempted to do 3 times and every time we got pushed aside because the shuttle was full. It tooks us over 3 hours to get out of the hotel and we were so frustrated. It cost us a day in the city because of all the nonsense. It was New Year's Eve day and there were no cabs, the shuttle was a joke and it was too far to walk to the train station. We had to forfeit our day in the city because by the time we got out of the hotel it was too late as we would have been stuck in the City for the NYE festivites which is not what we wanted. Not only does the shuttle not run outside the city of Secaucus (don't expect to get to the stadium via the hotel but do expect to pay $20+ for a 2 mile cab ride) and if the hotel is busy don't expect to catch the shuttle. I would not stay there again.

My family was hoping to spend a wonderful Christmas and New Year in New York, but it turned out to be a nightmare while staying at this hotel!

We saw from the website that the hotel provides free shuttle bus service to the train station going to Newark airport and also to the nearest bus stop that will bring you to the New York city. Therefore, enticed by this transportation service provided by the hotel as we understand that it's quite a bit of distance to New York city, we booked this hotel for a 4-night stay.

Prior to traveling to New York, I emailed to the hotel, requesting for further info about directions to get on to the hotel bus. Despite my 4 emails, the hotel never bothered to respond to any. Subsequently, I called them up personally and the receptionist then told me that I would need to call the hotel, upon arrival in New York.

When we arrived NY, we called but was told that the bus driver was not available, hence there was no shuttle service. The next day, when we tried to book the shuttle service, the staff at the front desk, Sharon, told us that we could only book 15 mins before the scheduled bus ride. We placed the booking at 9.05 am for the 9.30 am, but she said the 9.30 am was fully booked! Then I queried, I thought it's the hotel policy that booking could only be booked 15 mins before? She replied 'It's a miscommunications between the staff.' Then at 9.40 am, we went down to the front desk to make a booking for 10 am bus, AGAIN, Sharon told us the bus is fully booked! What!!! We were there, right at the front desk at 9.40 am, hoping to make a face to face reservation at 9.45 am, but ironically the bus was fully booked! We were very upset and frustrated and asked to speak to their manager. The manager, Caesar, told us off rudely that that was the way how their hotel worked and we shouldn't be complaining about it. He offered no sympathy towards our situation, neither nor he helped us to book a cab. While I was talking to Caesar, another hotel guest came by and told me that he too experienced exactly the same issue. The hotel guest was from California and he told me that he was very unhappy with this hotel and vowed that he would never come back to stay again. Both Caesar and Sharon were very unfriendly and unhelpful!

Our hope for a wonderful White Christmas and a great vacation in New York had been ruined by staying at Meadowland Plaza Hotel. Indeed, over the past 20 years we have been traveling all over the world for vacacation, in Asia, including China, Japan, etc, Europe, etc., this is the WORST hotel we had stayed so far. If you guys don't want to ruin your vacation, be it with your spouse or family, then DON'T EVER BOOK THIS HOTEL.

P.S. Other comments - it's like a 60s hotel, with the price we had paid, it's certainly not worth it at all. It smells and the toilet is so run down. The breakfast was also terrible. Only sausage, egg, pancake and a type of fruit, either banana or apple, and very hard bread (almost can kill anyone if I throw at him), coffee has got no coffee taste (in fact it tastes like Chinese herb tea), etc.etc.etc.

Room Tip: The size of the rooms varies, so I would recommend to request for a bigger room and on higher room.

This hotel was great!
Notes for the unsure traveller or first timers to New York (like we were)
If you are traveling for a holiday to New York it is ok to stay there but be warned you have to take a 8 minute subway ride to New York penn station cost about $8 return per person, there is a free shuttle from the hotel to the Secaucus station but it cant be booked (the shuttle only seats 10 people and it is first come first served) and you must wait until the half hour or the full hour before the shuttle leaves the hotel other wise it is about a $15 taxi ride to the station. It is good to use and great cause it is free all though I strongly recommend tipping at least $2 and being prepared to get taxi's back to the hotel has it sometimes can take up to an hour for pick up on the busier nights as there is only one bus!

Room wise it is great, but it doesn't have a fridge unless you request it and also the shower has NO pressure and the beds are a bit hard!!

Please Note that Secaucus is only 1 stop from penn station into New Jersey so coming back is really easy and it takes about 8minutes

Only coffee was supplied in the room.

Restaurant was really nice food.
Breakfast Buffett was good and service was good most days.

We stayed at this hotel this past weekend as we were visiting the Christmas sights in NYC. It is a very comfortable place, friendly staff, large rooms, very clean. The bathroom is small...it is an older hotel...but OK. The Non-Smoking room we were in DID smell a bit like smoke when you first enter; perhaps it used to be a smoking area.

It has a WONDERFUL ITALIAN RESTAURANT there and the food is OUTSTANDING!!! We liked it so well that we ate there both evenings. And they have live entertainment
in the Lounge/Bar area.

It is close to NYC with reasonable rates. Would definitely stay there again!

Room Tip: We were on the 4th floor and all was well. Cannot say what the other rooms were like but no complai...

The Meadowlands Plaza Hotel is not a luxury hotel but offers much for the traveler and at a good price. No need to pay over 200$ for a night in Manhattan when you can pay half of it and you're able to reach the Big Apple by bus within 20 minutes. The hotel's employees are very helpful and the shuttle service convenient (24 hrs). The complementary breakfast is pretty good.
The hotel is also pretty close to the MetLife Stadium. Rooms can be noisy because facing highway. In brief, nice and convenient hotel when visiting NY for 2 or 3 nights.

Mattresses uncomfortable, water stains on ceiling, outdated. Not much nearby. Soda machines broken or sold out. Noisy road nearby. Pilot, I've seen worse but only stay here if you have to. Everything else sold out so I had no choice. Free breakfast, wifi, and shuttle...
