“Base camp to New York City”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2010

This is the second time my wife and I have stayed at the La Quinta Inn and Suites in Secaucus NJ. We are a senior couple who travelled with friends from upstate NY to vacation in New York City. There are a few reasons we stay in Secaucus. One it is an easy drive from upstate NY to Secaucus and I’m not brave enough to drive into the city. Second the cost of hotels in NYC is twice to three times the cost that we paid. We stayed four nights and I paid just over $500 including taxes normal hotel fees. Third the NJ transit bus stops right outside the hotel and costs us $7.90 per person round trip into the Manhattan Port Authority terminal, and half that cost for seniors. The busses run daily, about 10 minutes apart, and takes 20 minutes from the front of the hotel to the Port Authority terminal. I park the car in the free covered garage and forget about it until it’s time to go home.
We stayed in a suite with a very comfortable king bed and a nice sitting room. The rooms were clean and neat with free internet access, and the staff kept the rooms clean throughout our stay. The Inn provided a cafeteria style breakfast daily from 6:30 to 10am, so we had our breakfast and were on our way into the city by 10am each day. The staff was very friendly and the hotel provides a shuttle at no fee for getting to anywhere you wanted to go within a five mile radius of the hotel.
I would definitely stay again at the La Quinta.

Located in Secaucus, New Jersey, this hotel is ideal for any New York City trips. Having just returned from a Broadway show extravaganza, we found this hotel ideal for our needs. Its location in an office/shopping/restaurant area is very safe and within walking distance of the Mill Creek Mall and stores i.e. Kohls, Walmart, Sport Authority, etc.
The hotel is comprised of suites with one section used for living room/TV and a desk with all the PC/WiFi connections provided. The bedroom had king sized bed with a second TV. In between the two sections there is a small fridge, microwave and a coffee maker. It also had a decent-sized bathroom and ample storage space. BTW the A/C is slightly on the noisy side. Overall, the room is very clean and well-maintained.
Free parking is definitely not a problem. The hotel has quite a large lobby with two PC’s for guest’s use including printers (there is a 15-minute limit on usage). A 24-hour coffee pot is always available for guests in the lobby. There is a pool but having not used it, we can’t comment. The free breakfast in the morning is in a large dining area and is well-supplied: juice, pancakes, waffles, toast, eggs, sausages, French toast, fruit, cereal, Chinese soup & rice etc.
One of the main advantages of staying in this hotel is the easy access and transportation into Manhattan. The NJTransit bus #320, start of the line (the bus is always empty), is located across the street. It is a maximum 25/35 minute ride to mid-town Manhattan (Port Authority Bus Terminal, 42nd street and 8th avenue/Times Square). This feature alone is one of the best reasons to stay at this hotel.
The desk staff is friendly and helpful and always available to answer questions and provide information including brochures, maps, bus schedules, etc.

My husband and I took our 5 children (10 to 15 yrs old) to see Manhattan, NYC and were pleasantly surprised of the comfort of La Quinta Inn for the 7 of us in the double suite room, which was very affordable (breakfast included!). There is a shuttle-bus across the street which goes to Time Square. The bus runs from early morning to late at night; the hotel gave us the schedule..really worth it! Our hotel room was comfortable, very clean and the beds were comfy!

First - the location is really good and is the main plus to this hotel. Breakfast pretty good but staff were difficult to find (under staffed) - always waiting for food to come or for forks ........... Frustrating if on a schedule. Printer did not work , pool was out of order, requests for additional blanket ignored and bathroom not as clean as other places nearby (chips in tiles, i had to wipe up the floor.....). Problems with damp.
However Location location!

This hotel was recommended to us by our local AAA and we're were happy with our stay there during a visit to NYC. There's a bus stop right across the street, which takes you into the Port Authority in NYC ($3.95 one way) in 20-30 minutes. From the Port Authority, you can hop a subway to get wherever you want to go in NYC.

Our room was a suite of 2 rooms, one with a pull-out bed and the other with two double beds. This configuration made it great for traveling with teenage boys. The bed mattresses were thick and very comfortable.

It wasn't the cleanest or nicest hotel room we've stayed in. There was a big wet spot in the carpet in the front room, and some smaller spots in the other room. The bathroom sink had a major chip in it. That being said, the reasonable price (including free parking and free breakfast) made up for its shortcomings. I truly think it's a great way to visit the NYC area and we will likely do it again.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2010

We stayed here July 17 - 21, 2010. This was the last leg of our 11 day vacation - we took Septa transportation from Philadelphia, transferring to another train in Trenton, NJ - $23.50 per person. At the Secaucus Junction we got a cab for $15 to take us to the La Quinta. It had been a long day, check in was efficient, we got to our room, dropped off our luggage and went straight to the pool. The water was warm and relaxing, very clean. There was a wedding that night so the pool was going to close early and for a few hours the next day - no problem for us. We took the hotels free shuttle to the nearby restaurant area (all chains but dependable and quick service - Chilis, Red Lobster, Burger King and others). Called the hotel when we needed a ride back and they picked us up within 10 minutes. We had a king bed with a sofa pull out in a separate area - large bathroom, air conditioning worked perfectly. Breakfast was hit and miss, because it's such a large hotel (compared to where we'd been staying) that it was difficult to get a 'complete meal' at any particular time. There were eggs, breads, donuts, yogurt, waffles, etc but many times only one or two items avail so you'd have to wait - not a big deal but some people were bent out of shape about it.

Catching the bus to the Port Authority is a dream - literally walk across the street and catch the 320. You pay cash (they will change up to a $20), $3.95 per person each way. It's easier to pay for round trip as you CAN'T pay cash on the bus on the return trip and have to find a ticket window - not hard but it is easier to pay round trip, just keep your tickets. La Quinta is the first stop and depending on what time you leave - there may be just 10 people on the bus or by the time you finish the four stops it could be standing room only. The Port Authority is right in the Times Square area - very convenient. When returning to the hotel you go to take 231 to catch the bus (confirm to make sure that doesn't change!). Overall - great experience, clean, price is right.
