“Under Construction”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2011

Marriott should have closed this hotel while they are under construction. As an Marriott Elite customer I stay due to the true rewards program they offer however the hotel presently is unacceptable. The entrance to the hotel is totally closed where the lobby is under construction. You will have to drive behind the hotel down a small alley or park in the public parking garage to check in the back. The check in area is a mess and once checked in you have to walk through a make shift cooridor and take the absoulte slowest elevator in the world to your room. None of the card keys worked and the maintenance man had to take you to your room to unlock the door. Better ask for the 7th floor due to the noise. I stay at this hotel 30+ days a year (flight crew) and the elevators are so slow I would believe some guy with a winch is running it up and down. The internet is dial up slow and has been like this for at least a year. Trying to download a file only to have the system time out is so frusturating. Although we have complained to managament nothing has been done about either. The exterior is due for a refurb as well, it is dated and looks old. The rooms are ok but nothing special with cooling and heating from a floor mounted unit - very hard to get the temperature just right. If you want shampoo after the first day you need to go find housekeeping. We had the fire alarm go off only to find the emergency exit stairway black and unlit - sure am glad it was a false alarm (which went off about a dozen times) The only true bonus of this hotel is the staff behind the counter, really nice folks and they always remember us. The 320 bus is right across the street into NYC takes about 20 minutes which is really nice however there are 5 or 6 other hotels in the same block. The internet rate shows $139 per night and am guessing one room is a loss leader as I have never seen that rate checking in.

Room Tip: 7th floor is as far away from the construction as you can get

Extremely disappointed when we arrived at this hotel so much that we checked out 15 minutes later and went over to the Renaissance in Rutherford which was 3 miles away. We used points to stay here for the weekend because we went to the Giants game today and wanted to be closer to the stadium but still have access to Manhattan.

Our first issue was with parking- the garage that you are directed to park in is a little sketchy and has tons of 2 hour parking for the shops but you can't park there for the hotel. We followed the signs to the hotel entrance and we came to essentially an alley, and then had to walk in some side sketchy door that led us to where breakfast will soon be but they had a make shift registration desk.

We could barely fit in the room with our luggage and as we started to check in, the Courtyard employee told us that they key maker machine was broken. I'm a platinum Marriott Rewards Member and I was offered my usual extra points or amenity, but not an apology or an explanation for the hotel being under complete renovation. We had to be escorted to our room by a manager and were not told when we would have keys. To get to our room., on the 7th floor, we had to walk through the kitchen, up 2 flights of stairs because the main elevators were not walking, then walk down a hall and go to another elevator bank (only 1 was working) and take it to 7. On top of all of that, we got a room directly across from the elevators and when I reserved I asked for one far away from the elevators. Complete disaster, and on top of that the room was just ehh. Typical Courtyard, but old and tired. There was no luggage rack, and since there were 4 of us in a small room it was hard to spread out.

I called Marriott Rewards, and they helped me to cancel my reservation and move to the Renaissance. When we hauled all of our stuff back downstairs 20 minutes after checking in, there were 4 people at the makeshift check in (the guy on the phone called them to explain why we were checking out) and just glared as we left. Again, no apology. Are you serious?!

This hotel should be closed down for a few days so they can get all of the renovation does and not inconvenience anyone.

Room Tip: Call before staying here to see if the construction is done!

I just checked out of this hotel. I read the other reviews which seem pleasant, but this was certainly not my experience. Besides the hairs on the back of my toilet and shower, there was blood smeared on the window blinds. The luggage rack and do not disturb sign were missing and apparently- they only provide shampoo every other day and never lotion. Pathetic. Not Marriott style- and I have been to plenty! Disgusted. Next time, I will go to embassy around the corner. Also- Marriott- it is room 220 just in case you want to clean up the blood!

The Courtyard Secaucus Meadowlands is a great option for those who want close proximity to NYC, without paying the exorbitant rates and parking fees found in Manhattan. This hotel is located in the Harmon Meadows hotel/retail center and offered free covered parking near the hotel. The NJ Transit 320 bus stop is adjacent to the hotel and runs approximately every 15 minutes. (On our weekend visit, we found staying at the Courtyard to be an advantage because it was one of the earlier stops on the route-- guests at hotels a couple of stops later were unable to find a seat and had to stand for the ride into Manhattan).

The front desk staff were friendly and helpful with a bus schedule, and they were able to accommodate our request for an early check-in. The room was a standard room with typical Courtyard amenities, including a mini-fridge. Our room was clean and large for our family of four. Breakfast is available at a cost, as at all Courtyard properties, and an Outback Steakhouse is attached to the hotel for dinner-- other restaurants and a Sam's Club/Wal-Mart are within a short distance within the Harmon Meadows area.

This hotel is a highly recommended option for travelers who wish to be close to NY, but be in a larger room and pay a lot less than a NYC hotel. The NJ Transit bus is comfortable and a convenient way into the city in approximately 15 minutes without the hassle of driving and parking.

We stayed at this Courtyard for 4 nights. The hotel is tired. We were told that the rooms had been recently updated, but I think they forgot to update the king bed in our room. The bed was saggy and creaked. The TV reception was terrible. I am not sure if it was the TV or the cable service. The lobby is in need of a redo.
The hotel is in a very convenient locations with several restaurants to choose from for lunch and dinner. We ate breakfast at the hotel one morning. The selection was very limited and not worth the cost of the buffet. There is a Wal-Mart and a Sam's Club within walking distance. The bus that runs into NYC picks up right next to the hotel. We were in the city within 30 minutes. Super easy!! I felt very safe at this hotel and area.

As a family we did not need the night life of NYC, only the sights and sounds so we were happy to be 15 minutes away and then come back to the peace and quiet of this hotel. The bus to Times Square is across the street and even if you rent a car from the airport, you can drive into the city in a short time. The down side of this is the $12 toll through the Lincoln Tunnel. The hotel has free parking, and free wifi and the breakfast was great. There's also a Starbuck's and Walmart within walking distance.

I was staying at the hotel in the middle of August 2011.Liked it a lot! The hotel is small, but really nice with friendly staff. The good thing that it`s only 15 minutes away from Manhattan! The bus stops just right at the corner of the hotel and the schedule is really good,it comes aprox. every 15 minutes. The room was very nice with a flat screen TV and it was very clean.I liked their breakfast buffet, even though it didn`t have a huge variety of food, but it was more like a homestyle food and for a small price. They have a mall nearby,so we were kindly offered a shuttle to get there and after our shopping we just called front desk and the driver picked us up.If I will visit NYC again I would definately stay there!
