“A Pleasurable Stay!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2007

My husband, my 14 year old son, and his 17 year old friend, and I recently visited the Jersey shore, for our very first time. We had heard mixed reviews of the area and knew not what to expect. We took a room at another motel for one night, figuring we'd check out the place and see what we thought.

To our surprise, the beach was lovely! The water was crystal clear, and the walk to the ocean was reasonable. As we walked along the boardwalk, we found The Sand and Surf Motel. It looked cleanest of them all. It was very well maintained. We went in and met Jeff who was friendly and accomodating. He showed us a room, and offered a very reasonable rate, discounted if we booked three nights, which was exactly what we needed!! We chose a second floor efficiency, for about $25.00 more than a standard room per night. We had 2 comfy, plush, full size beds, and ordered a cot as well. To us a bad mattress can ruin a trip, so we were very pleased with the beds! The room was newly renovated, clean cool and fresh smelling! No must mildew smell, like some have. It had a great view of the ocean, boardwalk and rides. It overlooked the dead end street so the kids could skate at night and I could sit upstairs and watch.
This is a family owned and operated motel. It is clean, it is a great location and it is reasonably priced. If you want a pool, they do not have one. If you have a problem parking across the street in their own secure lot, it's not for you. But we basically park the car and don't touch it again until we go home, so for us, it was fine! I would stay here again if I went back to Seaside. If you've never been there, this lodging will make the whole experience better. You can walk to the amusement park, waterslides, go carts, arcades, beach, restaurants, skyride and shops. It's a nice little getaway, especially with teens who like to stay up late and be entertained!!

I don't understand the bad reviews. We stayed for three nights and paid a great price. The location is amazing, yes the bathroom is small and the bedspreads are not new but I was not looking for the Ritz. Traveled with my husband and three kids. We are looking forward to next year and staying at the same place.

This was my family's first time staying in Seaside Heights and we wanted to find a place that was clean, convenient and considerate to our lodging needs. We found it all in this motel. We had a late check-in due to our traveling time and when we arrived, Ken was so pleasant as he greeted us outside. We had our 8yr old in the SUV and Ken stood outside while we went up and down the stairs unpacking. The room was very clean and I can be VERY particular. We were right on the Boardwalk, 30sec from the beautiful beach and fabulous food. We had a minor problem with the tv remote and didn't have to wait for service, Jeff came straight up to the room. We were very impressed and would return and reccommend it to others. Thank you Sand and Surf!

On July 10th & 11th, 2007, me and a friend, drove from upstate NY, to the shore. This was the 1st time to Seaside Heights and wanted somewhere close, to the beach, not a long walk, especially when you carry your chairs, to the beach. We pulled up to the SAND & SURF & got a room for 2 nights, in the 90 dollar range. They don't except Discover card (beware) & you also have to put down a 100.00 deposit, which you get back, once you check-out, as long as you abide by the rules! No smoking, inside the rooms! Rooms were spacious, but you have to return your dirty towels to front desk, in order to receive clean ones. We had 1 wash cloth (for 2 people)!?. The 2 gentleman owner's are polite but the t.v. is small(19 inch) & it's hard to watch laying on the bed, with your head turned, to one side. They could buy some new bedspreads, ones on bed, are kind of gaudy! You have to park your vehicle, kitty corner, across the street (nuisance) & lug all your gear! Make sure you park directly behind cement marker or they'll make you straighen up your car! It's a tiny fit also! A good thing, is that you're step's from the boardwalk & there is so much to do (arcades, games, etc) & eateries! We had a incident with young guy's next door pounding on our door & calleed owner & he caught them smoking in rooms & underage drinking was going on, he never kicked them out, so it must have been a slow business, because he wanted their money, luckily we didn't have any more problems, with these incosiderante hoodlums! They have no breakfast here, but we walked down to the AZTEC . Great breakfast sandwiches! Bobber's Family restaurant, is a must and is cheap & good! Go to Point Pleasant Beach, about a 20 minute drive, nice boardwalk, games & excellent aquarium, the sea lions & penguins, were hilarious! 20.00, for adults to get in & they have a nice gift-shop. Would definetly go back to Seaside Heights & stay at the SAND & SURF. Nice tattoo shop on boardwalk too, "ADRENALINE", got my 1st tat there, but bring your patience, gentlemen that run it, tend to flirt with the young girl's!!!! Also the Sand & Surf have no ice machine, you have to make your own, by the one tiny tray they have, in the small fridge. On wed. & thurs., you get on the beach, for free, on other day's, it's 5.00!. Have a great time, at the beach/ocean!!!!!.

  • Liked — Location!
  • Disliked — They don't change linen daily, taken dirty towels, to front desk, no continental breakfast, lousy parking area (way across the street)! T.V.'s should be mounted on the walls & bigger!, newer bedspreads, there was no hot water, to take showers in the morning (COLD-GOOD LUCK)!!!! (they must have thermostat on their hot water tank, turned down or off)!!!! No alarm clocks, in the rooms either! We had them give us a wake-up call & check-out is early(10:00 A.M.)!?!.

We arrived at the motel right at check in time and our room was ready and waiting for us. This is rare around here and I should say rooms not just room. The double room we had opened up to a full bed with tv, dining table with a view of the casino pier, microwave and fridge with a large closet that also housed a cot and foldaway bed. Once you walked through the doorway into the second room you were greeted with another spacious closet, armoire and another full bed with a generous bathroom. We could not believe that for a fourth of July week that we paid less than three hundred dollars for a three night stay and we literally were nine steps from the boardwalk and the beach opening on freemont. It has two parking lots...we drive a huge conversion van and they had room for us in the lot by the breakwater beach play area. So we pulled the van up and unloaded then made the simple drive (two blocks away and tiny blocks if that). We traveled with two small children (6 and 4) and had no problems with noise whatsoever even with the front window open at night. The back room comes with an a/c unit so if you want to close the door to seperate the kiddos from the adults everyone stays cool. There were no additional charges on our room....we kept the room clean and just enjoyed our stay. All they ask for is that you return the remotes, and respect their property..that is not so bad. I would rather stay in a place kept clean and nice than in a hotel that has no policies and allows for trashing of rooms. I would highly recommend this motel to anyone whether you are young or old or have small children it was perfect.

The Pros:

Parking for oversized vehicles
Comfy beds and clean rooms
A/C unit that worked :)
Two free beach passes per room - kids under 11 are free on beach always anyway
Just mere steps from Boardwalk...makes it nice after walking with two kids down to the funtown pier
Friendly staff
Extra amenities...microwave, fridge, foldaway beds
Awesome price...139 per night during the fourth and only 89-99 for days during the summer.
We thought everyone was friendly...esp. the mom she was very nice and sweet to my girls
All promises were kept and messages given as requested

Like other reviews we were way over charged to the tune of 800 USD for 3 days. When our friends locked their keys in their car they wanted to charge us another 100 dollars for them to wait in the room while AAA came to open the doors! We had the VIP room but the noise made it hard to sleep. We wont stay in this hotel ever again, and I wouldn't recommend anyone else to either. We paid Hilton prices and got halfway house quality.

I have stayed at the Sand and Surf several times. The very first time we stayed, we arrived late due to travel delays. The original hotel we booked gave up our room because we were not there when we said we would be. So there we were with four young children and no place to stay. We drove around Seaside Heights and stumbled upon the sand and surf, who had one last room. We went to the room and noticed immediatly that it was very well used. The bedding wasn't the prettiest, and was well used, but smelled clean. You could see repairs in the walls and the carpet was well worn. But overall it was a clean room and so much cheaper than our original room that was two blocks from the beach. So even though it wasn't a top rated hotel, when we decided to visit again, we choose to stay at the sand and surf. When looking it up online I found out that it had new owners. So we decided that it could only be better. We booked our room and arrived to find the hotel had a makeover. Yes i agree that the rooms can be small, but they were very clean. Yes there are rules to make you lose your deposit, but if you owned a hotel wouldn't you like to keep it nice? We stayed for 3 days and had a wonderful stay. They did not service the rooms everyday, but all we had to do was take the dirty towels to the office to recieve new ones. If we needed to clean up the floors all we had to do was ask to use whatever we needed. I stayed there with 4 teenagers and did not have one problem with the stay. As soon as my vacation time is approved, I will be calling to reserve my room at the sand and surf
