“Casino Arcade can make a nice family outing. Waterpark also nice.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2013

First, I am not reviewing the entire boardwalk here. I do like to walk the boardwalk but with all the head shops sleezy clothing shops it is not exactly the type of place I want to take kids. However the Casino Arcade has a great family deal. For $30 you can get a huge pizza and 4 drinks plus 2 $10 play cards for the kids. No you won't win enough points to bring home anything valuable, but the pizza is good and you get to have some fun for the cost of dinner. They also give you 4 carousel ride tickets - good for young kids. Just the presence of the carousel gives it a nice atmosphere.
As for the waterpark, it is not the biggest, but you also never stand on line for an hour and a half to get on a water slide either . There is something for everyone. You can set the kids free to go down the big slide and have them meet you later while you enjoy the hot tub (not too hot) or lazy river. It is clean and the food is not prohibitively priced like another NJ waterpark. Even the gift shop is not priced out of reach.
TIP: Locals need to visit during Easter weekend. You can buy discounted books of tickets for the water park, go-carts next door and rides on the pier. If you are not local you can buy them online that weekend but will need to pay shipping. The tickets say good in year purchased but they will tell you that as long as they own the property they will honor the tickets. I have been doing this for years and find it to be true.
I suggest 2 to 3 hours for the water park but if you also go to the pier, rides and go-carts you will be there all day.

“Recovering, but a ways to go.....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

Hurricane Sandy hit the Jersey shore, particularly Seaside Heights, really hard in October, 2012. Lots of destruction to the rides, shops, boardwalk. Because Seaside makes a living from summer tourists, they began to rebuild, and billboards, and commercials, all touted this summer "we're back!" Well, being there with a large family for vacation, they are not really back, maybe 50%. Don't get me wrong, we had a fabulous time, but we really had to research places to eat, stay, and have fun. The beaches are quite eroded, and yet charge $6 a day in beach fees to anyone over 12. I understand the need for the money, but if they want people to come back, they need to cut them some breaks. Casino Pier was about halfway rebuilt, and there were a few rides for small kids, and a few for teens. Expensive, unless you went to "wristband Wednesday" when from 5-11 p.m. The bracelet let you on any rides except bumper cars for one price. That was a fabulous deal!!! So yes, we will go back, and yes, they are working to rebuild, but we felt misled. The boardwalk wasn't back. Maybe next summer. On the plus side, Casino Pier had great PR, lots of contests, prizes. And our family of 10 adults, 2 teens, 8 kids and 2 babies, loved the fireworks, the Kohr's frozen custard, 3 Brothers Pizza, The Sawmill for food and drinks for all, and The Hershey Motel. Yep, we were happy, but hopefully happier next season.

Thank you for your review. Seaside Heights suffered terribly from Hurricane Sandy. We have been fighting and working hard to rebuild. We were not fully rebuilt but we did want to give our guests an experience for what we could offer at the time. All the businesses along the boardwalk all were hit differently, thus opened at different times.
By next season, we hope to have the boardwalk looking like it used to!

“The Jersey Shore never fails!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

I grew up in the area and you would think this place would get "old". As a kid I loved the carousal inside the Casino Pier and now that I'm older it still brings a smile to my face. Now living in the south, having some food northern food brings a new pleasure to coming to the Shore. Try the Fat Cowboy, it's stacked with all the "wrong" things like fried mac and cheese And to think they are still rebuilding! I'll be back!

Thank you for your review! It is wonderful to hear that the Jersey Shore brings back people year after year. We still have some rebuilding to do and we hope to see you next season to see it!

“Ugly Place”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

I stopped by Seaside Heights to check out the boardwalk and was very highly disappointed. It had all the elements for a nice boardwalk but it just doesn't really work very well because of both the business owners and the local clientele. The first thing we saw upon arriving was a drunken brawl that spilled out of one of the many boardwalk bars and ended with one person lying on the boardwalk and the other one running down the street pursued by cops. Then we went into a little arcade to watch the kids play only to see some cheap carnival barker scamming some little kid out of a toy it had won on one of the machines. The whole place made my skin crawl. If you're looking for a nice, fun day at the beach with some friendly relaxed people out for a good time then you're looking in the wrong place. On this roughneck boardwalk it's all about young toughs, swagger, and cheap carnival scams.
