“A piece of history”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

We went in the off season and pretty much had the place to ourselves. It was early fall when we retired people like to go places. The Sandy House Lighthouse is absolutly wonderful as is the historicn fort. It waSs also interesting to see the operatiponal USCG facility on the point. Overall a must nsee if you can. Would avoid the Memorial Day to Labor Day holiday rush

“AMAZING BEACH COMPLEX”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

This old Army Fort is now part of the US Park System. The beaches at Sandy Hook are fantastic beaches. The sand is clean, the water cold, and the amenities are quite good. During the week, parking (not free) is ample. On weekends you must be there before 10:00am in order to find a space.

Bathrooms are large, clean and well stocked. Snack bars exist on each bay's beach. In addition, there is a great restaurant as well.

One of the bays, Gunnison, is a legal clothing optional beach. Photography is prohibited there. People at all of the beaches are open, friendly and caring. On weekends, the nude beach may have as many as 5,000 people of all ages, races and inclinations.

Worth doing is driving through the fort area and seeing all the buildings and armaments still there.

The view from the beaches is uniformly spectacular. You can actually see Manhattan on some days.

Outside the park, there is no shortage of hotels, motels, restaurants and farm stands. All in all, very worthwhile.

“Beaches, History & Birds - Oh my!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2012

From the battlements on the north end to the beaches in middle Sandy Hook is fun place to go with family. There are numerous walkways or just opportunities to see the birds, swim and enjoy. Oh and if you like to fish there are places on the north end too.

“Enjoy your Nation Parks they are great!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2012

Rented a bike and explored all over the grounds. Participated in a ranger led walk and learned about beach plumbs: we even picked them. walked along the beach, went up into the lighthouse, met interesting people a fun filled day. Since it is past Labor Day, there is no parking fee- a bonus for an inexpensive day at a treasure of a park!
