“IT DOESNT GET BETTER THIS”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

This chef started in the Expo 67 in Montreal doing pastry for the french exhibit. It is a small elegant classy place with the continental cuisine anywhere in the world! BYOB expensive and worth every penny if you are a foody. Nixon used to dine here on a regular basis.

“Goodbye”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012

The current owners have sold this restaurant (I believe to current employees) and will leave 13 January 2013. The food is always good but not great. Service and ambiance are first rate. I had the red onion soup with a dollop of sour cream and the tart of the day for the main. The soup, had very little flavor and the tart was good. I did not have dessert. The food here is fairly heavy with a feeling of Swiss German. I think the owner may be from Zurich or Basel. I only come to this restaurant once or maybe twice in a year even though I live only 5 minutes away. I wonder what changes the new ownership will bring and whether they will be able to retain their very loyal clientele.

“Best restaurant in the area”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2012

I visit this restaurant 1-2 times a year and have never left disappointed. The meals are outstanding. The service is fantastic. I am shocked to see all of the negative reviews? I have been visiting this establishment since 1990 and will continue to do so. It is actually the only restaurant my husband and I consider worth dressing up for! This is gourmet quality food, so expect gourmet prices.

“One of New Jersey's Best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

The Saddle River Inn is one of Jersey's finest. Set in a beautifully restored barn, the Inn serves classic American/Continental cuisine that never fails to impress. Service is up to the standard of the food, which just enhances your dining experience. The Inn is BYOB with no corkage fee. Jackets required, which makes it just formal enough. Reservations are a must, especially on weekends.

“Quality Retrodining”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2012

Like many prestige dining outfits in NJ, the Saddle River Inn is in a time warp, in this case the Reagan Administration. That said, it's a great place to find what was best about dining in the 1980s because the quality is still there. The decor is very Swiss rustic as befits the barn in which it is housed and the Swiss owners, lending the place a warm in slightly worn ambience. Food is all very traditional and non-threatening: think rack of lamb in thick port-like reduction sauces with stewed cherries (not exactly what I had, but that's more the general idea). We don't snub it because it is still executed with care and attention -- the kitchen is working hard and still cares about what it is doing.

Overall, a very pleasant time warp in a quaint location.
