“Just Okay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2012

Usually have to wait at least 30 minutes on a week day and up to an hour on the weekend. The food is okay, I wouldn't say it is made to order, more or less it tastes like it is already prepared and then heated up, salad is unlimited as well as the bread sticks. The service is probably the best part of this restaurant as the servers are very friendly and helpful. The food usually comes out fast. The alcohol is a little on the pricey side.

“Best Lunch Bargain Around”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2012

We recently had lunch at the Olive Garden in Rockaway, NJ, located next to the Rockaway Mall just off Route 80, exit 35A in the westbound lane. The service was impeccable. For lunch we had the soup and sandwich offering. It was more than we could eat. They start you off with a fresh, light salad and breadsticks. We had a generous bowl of minestrone soup and a pannini sandwich (there are several choices) and iced tea (refillable) and all was done to tasty perfection. And the price was more than reasonable. The interior of the restaurant feels like Tuscany, quaint, cozy and quiet. I just wish they had been playing some Italian music but perhaps they do that at dinner time. No complaints. Great bargain.

“i was not treated like family - dissapointing!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2012

This location is great, right by the Rockaway mall, and the highway. parking is a plenty.
The restaurant itself was clean and well maintained and the ambience was great.Typical Olive garden , Italian decor is the theme here as is in every franchise.
restaurant can be romantic, well lit , bright and pleasant.
This was about the only positives i can think of.
I went in for lunch at 11.30 AM on a wednesday morning.
Both the greeter and the server were preoccupied with well practiced fake politeness and smiles that never reached their eyes.- not family like at all!
Once our waitress gave us the menu's and drink she dissapeared and did not show up for another 35 minutes.
We finally had to shout out and flag her down and then she proceeded to tell us how the management has her "running in different directions" while i sympathize with her difficult plight, i found it repellent that she runs down the place she works in.
After our orders were given it took another 20 minutes or more for our starter to come out.
The food
the food was so disspaointing and no creativity at all. Shrimp scampi starter was oversalted and shrimp seemed frozen and not fresh at all. portion was ok for two people.
the ceaser salad was the same, again oversalted with an overwhelming flavor of low quality parmesan and too much dressing to even taste the salad.
I did not even feel like sampling the breadsticks which came cold and unappetizing.
i ordered the chicken caprese Panini which did not taste like caprese at all, i had to look for the chicken bits which were so small, teh sandwhich was small and the Caprese sauce again heavily salted ( and belive me i like my salt usually) it really felt like i was eating something old that had been reheated. Mozarella was watery and flavorless.
It was really a very badly made sandwich.
My friend had a shrimp pasta alfredo dish which came swimming in oil , and the pasta to shrimp ratio, very dissapointing. She too did not seem to enjoy this meal.
the service meanwhile kept being fake polite and none of them cared much for any of the diners . When people finished and left their tables the waitstaff seemed relieved as they seemed very overwhelmed and understaffed.
I dont recommend this Olive garden in Rockaway, i would try to find another place to eat.the quality of the service and food was extremely dissapointing. Our meal , 1 starter, 1 half sandwich lunch, 1 pasta special cost us $47 we drank only house water.
