“Excellent historic B and B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2014

We stayed at the Inn at Glencairn over a weekend and found it to be a delightful and peaceful place. Patty and Mason were very warm and accommodating which was highly appreciated given the long distances we traveled to arrive there. They went out of there way to make us comfortable and that made all the difference. This is a place to visit when you need a break from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

We stayed at the Inn at Glencairn on a whim while our son was playing soccer at a local University...literally a last minute decision to NOT stay at a budget hotel. What a delightful surprise! Here's what you need to know...Gorgeous historic property, well appointed rooms with period pieces and lovely elegance. Modern, tastefully done bathrooms with every amenity that a luxury hotel would provide. Flat screen TV's if you need one, although I am sure you would never need to turn it on! The food is worth the visit alone! The French toast was like nothing we had experienced before and we fancy ourselves "foodies"! Delicious home made goodies accompanied the complimentary wine you will find in the common room in the afternoon hours. No detail left undone. Oh, and super pleasant innkeepers are like icing on the cake. Come take a bite of this sweet retreat! Near Princeton, Rider University and the Grounds for Sculpture...a must visit with the visiting artist Seward Johnson's artwork!! No question we will come back to this little paradise!

I spent five days at the Inn at Glencairn and hated to leave. The building is wonderfully historic (built in the mid-1700s), but has been very sensitively renovated to include all the modern conveniences (new bathrooms, flat screen TVs, central a/c, Wifi) without detracting at all from the Colonial atmosphere. The back property is peaceful and bucolic with a stone smoke house, a big red barn, and stone stables, all from the Colonial period. My favorite relaxation was sitting on the stone patio with a cup of tea or a glass of wine and just soaking in the beauty of the scene.

Innkeepers Patty and Mason Tarr could not be more welcoming or helpful (they moved an antique desk into my room so I could work there), yet they are also very unobtrusive so one can be private when one wishes.

Guests have ongoing access to Patty's scrumptious homemade pretzels and cookies, as well as tea, coffee, and bottled water. In the evening, there's complimentary wine. Patty's gourmet breakfasts are delicious and extremely filling. Come hungry!

The beautiful town of Princeton is a short drive away and offers lots of excellent restaurants and shopping, as well as the extensive campus of one of the world's great universities. You can also stroll, bicycle or canoe along the Delaware and Raritan Canal, visit the fabulous Grounds for Sculpture, and tour various historic sites.

I can't wait to return to the Inn!

We stayed at The Inn at Glencairn while on vacation visiting family and it was wonderful. Patty and Mason were so hospitable and the breakfast they served us was just amazing. This is a place especially suited for those that love historical homes and the atmosphere of days gone by. It is full if interesting pieces not to mention the original fireplace in the family room. Mason served us wine on arrival and we sat back and enjoyed a wonderful overnight stay. We highly recommend The Inn at Glencairn!

Mason and Patty, the friendly inn keepers, go the extra mile to make you feel welcome. Our room was very pretty and extremely clean and comfortable. The breakfast of French toast, bacon, and fruit was delicious and we were grateful that wine, homemade pretzels, and chocolate chip cookies were available for guests in the late afternoon and evening. Beautiful grounds set back from the road. We hope to return.

Princeton was the last stop on our college tour. We spent a sleepless night the day before in New Haven and a long day in the car and on campus. To arrive at the B & B felt like arriving in heaven. All was so clean and comfy. The breakfast excellent and the complimentary cookies to die for. The housekeepers were so friendly and so interested what brought us to Princeton. But the best part were the beds. We slept 11 hours all rested for our flight back to Europe! Thanks so much. The only regret we have is not to add one more night. All the best!

Visiting friends in Princeton, we looked for a good hotel but most in the area get poor ratings.Fortunately we decided to try the Inn at Glencairn. We arrived rather late but were warmly greeted by Mason who gave us the tour, giving my husband time to help himself to one of the delicious chocolate chip cookies from the jar in the living room. Our room was actually a twin (the Gulick) but they had kindly put the beds together to form a very comfortable king. Regrettably, this left one side of the bed (mine) without a bedside table or reading lamp. The bathroom was spacious and spotless. The house is very quiet and we had no difficulty sleeping. Breakfast was good on all three mornings, consisting of fruit and a cooked egg dish and some kind of breakfast meat. The texas french toast was the best. Plenty of parking and a good location close to Princeton and only a mile in the other direction to good restaurants in Lawrenceville helped make this a very good stay. We would stay here again.

Thanks so much for your review of the Inn at Glencairn. I am glad you decided to try the Inn after being disappointed with other lodging options in the area. Thank you for commenting on our comfortable furnishings, spotless bathroom and yummy breakfasts. We have been in the process of refurbishing our rooms, and we have added bedside tables and reading lamps as well as larger new flat screen televisions, and additional comfortable chairs where needed. These updates are nearly complete, so stay tuned! We look forward to your return visit!
