“Ok - close to all”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2013

Stayed for one night with 2 kids. Outdoor pool was nice. Breakfast was great and they even offer a small dinner meal. The rooms were clean but defiantly needs some TLC. My only complaint would be that the sheets had some stains on it - maybe need some replacement. Otherwise it was a fine place for the night. The suites were also a plus. Lots of room

We came to this hotel with our 2 daughters for a couple days stay. Check in was OK. Got hit with overwhelming odor of Clorox upon entering the room. Noticed rug was fraying. Coffee machine parts were broke off & just lying in place. Shower didn't drain. Construction started around 7:30/8 with a lot of noisy power tools, ladders everywhere, lifts blocking entrance/exit of 1st fl room & also blocking sidewalks to parking area. I did expect some construction but I called ahead & they told me it wouldn't affect us due to it being in the back, HA WRONG!! I'm glad I wasn't expecting to sleep late. Breakfast attendant women was very intimidating & slow. Refills were intermittent if at all coffee, bagels, butter, fresh fruit etc. to the point that my daughter said she was afraid to ask the attendant for more waffle mix "cause she would get mad". NICE!! That’s what I like to hear paying $130 a night. As for all the staff, no one seemed happy. Oh well, I hope this helps someone make a different choice.

Dear endried, Thank you for taking the time to write your review. I am sorry to read that you did not enjoy your stay with us. It is true that we are going through a renovation currently to re-image our Hotel and with this comes the normal hassle of ladders etc. Our crews however do not start till 9AM on the week days and 10AM on the weekends so I found it surprising that you noticed noise between 730 and 8AM. I hope you get to see our completed renovations next time you come to the Princeton area. Make it a great day. Marcel

I stayed at Sonesta ES Suites Princeton July 19-20, 2013 for a family trip to Six Flags. This area is about 40 minutes away from Six Flags. The property is a great place for families. We enjoyed our stay. Upon check-in we were greeted by the very friendly, Ms. Irene. She was most accommodating. Initially, our rooms were located in the back of the property and we decided we wanted to be closer to the pool. Ms. Irene without hesitation made the changes for us. I was reassigned to suite 1523, right near the pool. The kids loved the pool and the basketball court. We used one of the 2 gas grills for a cookout our first night there. The grill was stationed under a canopy which was really nice because it was 90 degrees that day. Grilling utensils were available at the reception desk. The property is a little dated (they are undergoing renovations), but it is clean. The units are like small apartments. Inside you will find a full kitchen, living room and dining area. The buffet breakfast that is included was pretty decent. They had fresh fruit, cold cereals, oatmeal, sausage, eggs, bagels, waffles, sausage gravy and biscuits. Overall, I think this a good property and would recommend it to traveling families.

We stayed here for a weekend in July and couldn't be any happier. This property is always on top of its game. We stay here often and it's always great. They are renovating the hotel at the moment so I'm guessing it will be even better, when we stay next time.
All the employees are friendly and you gotta love that breakfast!!!

Thank you guys,
AM & Jillian

We've been here for a week.

OVERALL:
We are disappointed. We will not stay here again, unless they make some major changes. But will they raise their prices after renovations are complete?

Front desk staff is not helpful. We asked to speak with the operations manager multiple times. The response we received each time was, "He's not here right now. He might be here today. Maybe later." No one asked for our name or room number to have him contact us when we was on the property.

Dirty, old, not well-maintained. Undergoing renovations right now, but they should really invest in some cleaning NOW. The eating area in the main building is dirty, floors are sticky every day, except the one day a week that they clean/mop. The plastic chair in the laundry room is filthy and stained. How difficult would it be to change that out? Furniture is stained, corners of bedside tables and desks in rooms are splintered/broken. Cobwebs in the rooms that are not removed upon cleaning between guest stays.. Bathtub grab bars are rusty. I am doing basic cleaning of our room myself on a daily basis, simply because the staff will not (we asked the front desk), and for our length of stay, we really cannot afford to move to another hotel.

THE POSITIVES:

The price is great. No other hotel in the area provides large rooms like this at this price, so a great value. It'll be interesting to see if they raise their prices once they complete their renovations.

Good location. 15 minutes to Princeton, and close to amenities on Route 1.

We asked for a large 2-bedroom suite. The size is great, and the master bathroom is very large, and has safety grab bars, making it easy for us to help our child who needs aid to shower.

Breakfast is included, and a light meal is provided 3 nights a week.

Laundry facility in the main building, and it's free. A huge plus for large families making extended stays.

THE PROBLEMS:

Check-in:

Check-in was delayed by 40 minutes because the system was down, and the one person manning the front desk had no idea what to do. She was on the phone with "tech support", and when we and the other guests waiting to check in asked her if she could simply manually assign us a room and check us in through their system later, she said "no". 10 minutes later, another staff member showed up (no name tags on any staff that I could see) and quickly pulled out a sheet with our names and room numbers, radioed for someone to check that the room had been cleaned, and we were assigned a room.

During this time, our tired kids wanted to sit down, but refused because every single chair in the lobby was dirty. And I mean EVERY SINGLE CHAIR had either a liquid stain, or crumbs, or white or brown spots. Crumbs on the coffee table in front of the TV. This was at 4:30pm.

The Room:

When we made our reservation, we had asked for a room at the back of the property, away from Route 1 traffic, and that's exactly what we received.

However, the room was dirty. Crumbs on the handle of the dishwasher, stains on the kitchen countertops. Our kids' socks were black with the dirt form the carpets.

The rooms are terribly old and completely run down. Bathtubs have moldy corners. The safety grab bars in the tubs are rusted. The faucet handle is missing a piece. The plastic sink faucets are stained, crusted with hard water deposits. There were huge cobwebs next to the TV cabinet in the living room, with multiple bugs in and near it.

The Breakfast Area:

Floors are constantly sticky, the staff can't seem to keep up with cleaning the counters in front of the buffet bars as guests drop or spill things. Drinks dropped on the floor are picked up with towels, but not mopped immediately, making the floors sticky. I feel that they're doing their best just trying to bring out more food quickly to replenish the stations, but they seem to be really understaffed if they can't clean off the stations. Also, the waffle maker was out of service for 2 days earlier in the week, and seemed to not be working again this morning. 3 days in one week.
And the drink fountain machine was not working this morning, Front desk staff was not helpful. No apology, no promise to fix it.

Housekeeping:

When housekeeping came in the first morning of our stay, the staff member brought in towels, and proceeded to change our towels and make our beds. She took out our garbage. And then she left. That was it. No wipedown, no vacuuming. I thought maybe it was an oversight. The next morning, I waited for her to come in again, and I said to her that though we were in the room, it was fine for her to go ahead and vacuum. She said that no, she didn't need to vacuum. Later, we went to the front desk and asked about this, and we were told that they only 'clean' the rooms once a week.

We are truly disappointed with the Sonesta ES.
