“Dumpy, sad place”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2010

In the area for family event and couldn't believe this was a Crowne Plaza...no elevator, a 2 story motel converted with the CP name. Rooms were small, depressing.

We are a frequent travelers who usually stay at Hampton Inn, Homewood Suits, or Holiday Inn Express 12~16 days out of a month. We came to stay at Crown Plaza Paramus, NJ for a junior golf tournament.

We just checked in today (7/11/2010) but we already had to move 2 times already: 1st time was because the internet was not working, a desk lamp was broken, found several pubic hair on the sheets (Yak!!!!) and neighbor stamping floor or pounding on the walls. The second time was due to roaches in the room....we're not kidding......roaches!!!! We killed 3 and just got fed up and asked to move again. In general, the housekeeping of the rooms are poor. The furniture are dusty, drawers were sticky, carpet were NOT vaccumed well at all. Found fortune cookies crumbs and wrappers, unknown particles, and insects on the carpet. The room seemed nice at first but there are lots of details overlooked. We are just asking for a CLEAN SANITARY room!!! Beware, there is no elevator so if you have heavy luggage and you are assigned a upper floor room, good luck carrying your bags upstairs.

The front desk personnel could be more friendly, informative, attentive & professional. Asked for a refrigerator at ck-in and was promised one will be delivered within an hour. We went out and came back 3 hours later with some groceries but there is no refrigerator in the room to refrigerate them. The receptionist totally forgot about it.....we were told it's too late at night to deliver one because out room was on the second floor.....no elevator and no staff to carry the item upstairs.

Internet is not wireless at this property also. If you have more than one people who need to use the Internet in the room, you are in trouble.

Best hotel bed I've slept in. Amazing customer service. Had to call front desk twice for something - both times they arrived to my room within a few minutes.

The first part about this stay was trying to find it. My TomTom couldn't find the address, and neither could Google maps. Mapquest and Yahoo Maps do seem to find it. If you have any problems, just try to get to the Paramus Park Mall and drive on the road around the parking lot and you'll run right into it. The room and hotel were both nice. After taxes it came to about 150$ a room (no free breakfast in my rate), and while that's a little much, it is what it is for the area and proximity to NYC. My only real complaint is that it was very hot during my week there, and the AC in the room made everything feel damp, from the bedding to my clothes. The vending machine on the first floor (2 floors only) didn't work, but the upper level did. There is a Bonefish Grill attached to the restaurant, and route 17 is right by the hotel and a quick jump to route 4, and both have plenty of restaurants also.
Make a note to yourself that if you want to go to the mall for any reason, it is not open on Sundays (blue laws are still in effect in the area). Rt 17 and 4 are both miserable drives, with one way traffic, no left turns, and having to do a double loop to u-turn to go the other direction. If this kind of driving isn't for you, pick another hotel, as those routes are the only way you'll get anywhere away from the hotel unless you get on the parkway.

Crowne Plaza - Paramus is an ideal hotel for both the business and leisure traveler. The hotel is located close to major roads that can get you to nearly any spot in Northern NJ within a matter of minutes. While centrally located, the hotel is positioned that no highway noise is noticable from any room, providing a comfortable and quiet nights sleep. With the many upgrades to the lobby and the breakfast area, the Crowne Plaza provides a very welcoming atmosphere. The addition of the Bonefish Grill (with room service) provides a very high quality array of foods at a moderate price, further elevating the value of the hotel. With these many benefits of the hotel, the one thing that stands out the most is the wait staff. You are always greeted in a friendly manner. They make you feel as you are the most important person to them, but do this in a way that makes you feel like you are part of their family.

I booked this hotel through a 3rd party booking site. They did not guarantee room type, though they indicated they would do their best to honor requests. I called ahead of time requesting 2 double beds. When we arrived, they only had king beds. When I expressed my disappointment, the night manager (Sonia) came out and graciously agreed to try to find another option (again, I knew they did not have to do this.) She quickly located a room with 2 double beds, apologized - unnecessarily - and sent us on our way with a cheerful smile. Outstanding service, and very much appreciated. If in the area again, I will seek out this hotel. Well-done.
