“Dated, but a good location, and my dog is welcome”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2013

We have had to make trips to Bergen County NJ twice this past half month due to a family emergency. We were able to get a reservation easily, the price is right, and the location is easy to get in and out of. Yes, as the other reviews state, this property is dated (a former Howard Johnson), but it is clean. The rooms are LARGE and the beds are comfortable. The room is very clean, and despite being very close to RT 17, the noise for traffic was not an issue. (if you read any of my other reviews you will see that noise is an issue for us).

La Quinta also allow guests to bring their pets, which is important to our family, especially in times of emergency.

I am 22 year career US Military Veteran and the Military program supporting active duty, reserve, and retired military members makes the stay very reasonable. There is also a Hot Bagel in the shopping plaza next door, great coffee and bagels for breakfast.

We've stayed lots of places on Rt. 17 and we know what to expect. This one is well below the standard.

It's an old motel and it shows it. The layout is kind of weird. For one thing, even though they have an elevator, there are no rooms in the hotel that can be accessed without climbing a short flight of stairs.

The breakfast is adequate for a "cold breakfast" -- do it yourself waffles, toast, 2 kinds of cold cereal, yogurt. Nothing to make you want to get up early.

The rooms are ok, but no better than ok. Adequate lighting, relatively clean (though ours had too many flies buzzing around), nowhere near enough electric plugs for today's device-heavy traveler.

They had the weakest internet connection I've ever had in a hotel. My laptop has a good strong connection and it was never a simple click-and-connect. Sometimes you couldn't connect at all, sometimes it took up to 20 minutes.

The whole facility had a worn-out feel. The ice machine was out of order, the carpets in the hallway were VERY worn, and the hotel had a musky smell. There are LOTS of hotel options on Rt. 17 and I'd avoid this one.

Room Tip: Yeah, stay at Holiday Inn Express

We ended up with a room on the third floor and it was suppose to be smoke free, which it didn't nothing but smell of smoke and cigarette burns on the tub!! With a sign saying if you smoke it's a 250 fine, lol

When we decided to stay there we were on 17 going north and there is no turn off to get to the hotel so we had to exit off and get back on 17 going south to get to it, so will plan better next time.

Room Tip: i would pick a different place for trying to get to it!!!

I don't wish to be negative about our stay here but this was the fifth and last La Quinta hotel we stayed in during a visit to the USA. All the others were warm and welcoming. On arrival here I just felt that it was not up to the standard of the previous hotels visited. I think this may be that Paramus is not partiicularly a resort hotel like the others. However, the La Quinta web site offers for the King Size bed room a microwave and refrigerator oin these rooms. Needless to say this facilty was not provided at Paramus. On arrival we were greeted by a friendly lady who thought that putting is in room 215 would be useful for the drinks and ice machines. I think we were being fobbed off with a room which had we taken it would have resulted in little or no sleep. This is a problem where drinks machines are placed in proximity to some bedrooms. These machines buzz all night long and once you wake up you've had it. We asked for a change and although the room we were given was a little further along the corridor, the buzz was discernible in the still of night. This is a problem possibly of hotels of this type and not particlarly La Quinta per se. Breakfast was adequate. Other La Quinta hotels had a better choice at breakfast. However, I did not leave hungry. Just a regular hotel; not good, not bad but regrettably I could not give an excellent accolade on this ocassion.

Room Tip: Make sure your bedroom is a mile away from the drinks and ice machines.

I recently stayed the night here for the second time and was a breeze, coming from a former Paramus resident. The desk clerk was understanding when I checked out and left my car for several hours when I went for a ceremony. My stay here was fine and would happily use this hotel again if I ever had to come to Paramus again. Only problem was no refrigerator. Thank you LaQuinta Inn.
