Our room was given away before we arrived – even after we received a confirmation number from the owner, assurances that we could arrive anytime after 3 PM, and a voicemail message with our specific room number.
The owner was rude and completely unapologetic about rectifying the situation. After over an hour of huffing and puffing and generally making us feel that this was somehow our fault, he ungraciously offered us another room, which was barely big enough to fit a double bed and extremely shabby (don't be fooled by the "virtual tour" and pictures on the web site -- the room we saw barely resembled anything in those images). We dropped off our bags in the room, but then immediately returned to the front desk to say that while we appreciated his efforts, we felt that he owed us an apology for his bad manners. His response: “You don’t have to stay here. I’ll cancel your reservation.” We accepted and immediately left, even though we had to drive over two hours to get home and it was past midnight by this time.
Wouldn’t you know it, we just found out that we’ve been charged the full amount for two nights – over $400! We’re disputing the charges with the help of the credit card company and have filed a complaint with NJ’s Better Business Bureau.
There are surely plenty of Ocean City hotels that offer decent rooms and friendly service. The Georgian Hotel isn’t one of them. It doesn’t deserve your business – it shouldn’t even be in business.
