When looking at the TripAdvisor reviews for Italian restaurants in Ocean City, NJ, I was surprised how poorly ALL Italian restaurants were rated. I could not believe things were THAT bad at ALL of them.
Well, I'm not sure what people are looking for, but I found the food at Luigi's to be a taste of, what I consider, true Italian dining.
Sure, the restaurant looks old, with wood-paneled walls and old light fixtures, but the food was genuine.
We started with the Salami & Cheese Plate, authentic flavors and very good. Bread was crusty, not "stale"! Our dinners of sausage & peppers and chicken parmigiana were very good.
About the sauce... It was what I grew up knowing as tomato "gravy", not thick or chunky. That is traditional sauce, although it may not be what the "All You Can Eat Pasta at the Olive Garden" crowd may expect.
If someone wants a traditional Italian dinner, I'd have no hesitation in recommending Luigi's in Ocean City! If not looking for genuine Italian, then I'm sure you can cross the bridge and find the nearest Olive Garden.
