“What a disappointment!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2013 credit card Amex Card Member Review

Went to this restaurant a year ago, shortly after it opened. It was wonderful! Great food, reasonable prices, good service. Went back again last week. What can I say? Cut rate meat, tough to chew, tasteless ground beef dishes. Chicken was good, but their main meat is lamb and the quality was poor. Dinner prices charged at lunchtime because we didn't choose to eat from "buffet" that was set up. Buffet had mostly starches and some overlooked vegetables. Not what we came for. Very disappointing. Won't be going back. It's a shame really as the area desperately needs some variety of cuisine.

“Don't miss it!”

Excellent food. The wait staff couldn't have been nicer. This place is great for a group dinner. BYOB with a liquor store next door. What more could you want?

“We WILL be back :)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2013

We went to dinner at Babur Garden on a Saturday night. Our waiter was not Afghani, but knew the menu well. Since it was our first visit we needed some help and advice and he was quick and eager to assist and give suggestions. We started with the chicken mantu appetizer which consisted of 4 chicken stuffed dumplings with a vegetable sauce - very good and enough for 2 to share. Then came the delicious bread which was similar to Naan, plus 3 different sauces to compliment the dinner - also VERY good! Next came a lentil soup, which had a bit of a kick to it - delicious! Then came a salad of diced cuke, tomato, peppers, in a delicious vinaigrette dressing with cilantro. The waiter advised that some people like to eat this over the rice that comes with dinner - great suggestion. For dinner my husband ordered Kabuli palaw with lamb, which was super good and very tender. I ordered the lamb tikka kabob with spinach rice and loved it! I would have loved to have tried one of their desserts, but was just too full (plus we both took some of our dinner home in a doggie bag). Delicious, plentiful portions, and good service! We WILL be back!

“Rude and unwelcoming waiter.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013

Under recommendation my partner and I went to Babur Garden, we wanted to experience Afghan cuisine and we were really excited about trying our this new place. We were seated immediately as we were the only other table in the establishment. The waiter came over, gave us water, welcomed us to the restaurant and brought our bread. He did not go over the menu at all with the exception of pointing out the New York Strip ( which is the most expensive item on the menu ) We were not interested at all in the steak because we wanted to try authentic Afghan food. The waiter brought out bread to us and let us look through the menu alone. Meanwhile we were under attack by several black flies that would not leave us alone. Honestly, we could not find anything on the menu that was really calling out to us as truly authentic or exciting. We decided to go with a few appetizers that sounded interesting, some salads and two side dishes. Upon ordering that the waiter said, "Well you got away with getting bread" Are you kidding me? In other words, bread does not come with what you are ordering. We were so insulted and felt so unwelcome that we paid for our "Afghan green tea" which was basically regular American iced tea and left. We will not be back. In addition to the restaurant being empty the waiters uniform was crusty and dirty as if he had worn it without washing for several shifts.

“Great experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2013 via mobile

We always like trying something different. Went here last night July 6, 2013 with my son and husband. We really enjoyed it. The food was good. We had never tried Afgan food before. I would say it is was somewhere in between Greek and Indian food. I really enjoyed it. We started with naan bread and 3 different sauces, one a dill/yogurt, another somewhat similar to a chimichurri and the last almost like a sweet buffalo wing sauce. We each had different entrees. Two chicken and one beef, each trying a different rice. The meals came with a soup and a cucumber/tomato salad. We ended the meal with baklava. The servers were very nice and helpful, although they could have refilled the water more frequently. This is a BYOB. We will definitely return.
