“OKAY”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2007

We have been staying at this hotel for the past 6 years. A coworker suggested Montego Bay because we were looking for a place to take our then 3yr old daughter. We have managed to stay in the same room for 5 of the 6 years. We had a terrific view from the ocean front room (608). The elevator is extremely extremely slow. Let me say that again, extremely. If you were there during their specials you could only order (or at least we could only order from a paper menu) after the first year we decided not to get their weekend package deal. The food was okay. Nothing on the menu was added or changed during our stays there every summer. Last year we decided to go off the boardwalk to find other eating places. The rooms were of a nice size for three people. The knob to the tub was broke and it stayed broke every summer after. I can't speak for last year because we stayed on the fifth floor just below. The parking was cramped. but okay I guess. They added more rooms about a year or so ago.The elevators on that side of the hotel are much better. The indoor waterpark made me feel uncomfortable. The staff aren't the most people oriented people in the world but I have encounterd worse. All and all I guess it was ok. This year we are going to break the cycle and stay at a very different hotel. We won't be getting an ocean view(because we waited to late) but now at least we will have someplace to compare Montego Bay to. Montego Bay isn't a bad place, its on the boardwalk, and near the beach. Everyone has their own opinion and everyone isn't going to like or dislike the same things all the time. You have to experience it for yourself.

  • Liked — the view of the ocean and sunrise/set

We stayed at the Montego Bay during the summer of 2002 and it was an awful experience. They stuck us in an unfinished room that was right above the deck where the guests barbecued..Smoke was pouriing in the room during our stay. The Room itself had not been finished and was disgusting,we had to clean up ourself! The Cabinets weren't put together. The Stay was So Bad that We left a Day early and of course We were not refunded one Dime.!I'll never stay in that Dump again...ASG Brick NJ.

My wife and I just returned from a President's Day weekend at Montego Bay. What a disappointment!!.We stayed in one of the ocean view suites. The place was fairly large, but the beds were very unconfortable. The elevator service was extremely slow (I wonder what happens during peak summer months???). The maid service was almost non-existant.. She only showed up on Saturday. (we were there from Friday to Monday). Our biggest complaint was the NOISE. Not that I mind the kids, but playing ball in the hallways till 10 PM while the lazy parents talked to each other from one unit to another, with the doors wide open., was a little much. Perhaps the parents looked at it as a excuse to drink. It's almost like "Let the kids play in the hall. We don't care, why should anybody else". The only night we achieved anything similar to sleep was Sunday night, after all the noise had left. We have never been with such inconsiderate "guests" in our lives. We have been coming to Wildwood for over ten years, but we had the smarts to stay in a cozy place in Wildwood Crest and will continue to do so. We just thought we'd come down in the winter to see what it was like(the place we normally stay was closed for the season). The only things we can say that were GOOD about Montego Bay were the ocean view and their restaurant.

  • Liked — The ocean view and the restaurant
  • Disliked — The NOISE, lack of maid service, a full kitchen with hardly any cooking utensils

I have stayed in Wildwood at least 40 or more times over the years (2nd time at this property). For those not familiar with the area, North Wildwood, Wildwood & Wildwood Crest are nice oceanfront resort towns with arguably one of the best boardwalks on the east coast. These areas are dominated by mostly mom and pop type motels (not "chain affliliated", except for one property that I know of). I would probably rate most hotels throughout the Wildwoods in the 2-2 1/2 star range (out of 5). If you're used to staying at most Sheraton's, Marriott's, etc., you'll be hard pressed to find the same type of 4-5 star accommodations except for a select few properties. This has never bothered us.
With regards to the Montego Bay, it certainly ranks as one of the better properties that we have stayed at in the Wildwoods. I would probably rank it in the 3 1/2 star range (out of 5). It is located directly on the boardwalk and beach. During the tourism season, it is just a short walk up the boardwalk to most of the action (rides, games etc.). The resort does have it's own restaurant, bar, and a very unique indoor pool area (waterpark) featuring a large waterslide, jacuzzi, bar & a children's play area. I haven't stayed at any other property in the Wildwoods with an indoor pool & play area so I can't say if this is the only one around or not. The room that we stayed in was a three room suite featuring a bedroom with two beds & t.v., a fully equipped kitchen and a living room area with t.v. There was a balcony outside the living room (the resort has both oceanfront & oceanview rooms available). The rooms were clean and comfortable.
If I had to find a few negative things to point out, I would point to the following: first, I would agree with some earlier postings about the elevators being small and slow (this did not affect us as we stayed on the first level and only had one flight of steps to climb but I could see it being a possible issue and nuisance to those on higher floors or those with physical limitations who couldn't walk). The second issue (although I'm not positive about it) might be parking. There does not appear to be nearly enough parking for all the available rooms "in-season" when the hotel is full (during our New Year's Eve stay, the hotel wasn't full but all of the parking spots were). This final issue was our only real complaint during our stay. We (my wife & I and a 2nd party that traveled with us who had their own room) were there for the New Year's Eve weekend package party that the resort was offering. The restaurant area is where the two evenings of a DJ party is setup and there are approximately 25 - 30 tables in the main restaurant. All of these have a view of the DJ, dancefloor, etc. The overflow of people get seated into an adjoining banquet room that had about 8 large round tables set up. The problem with the adjoining banquet room is that, due to it being semi-walled off from the main restaurant area, besides there being limited view (only a few of the seats) of the DJ & dance floor, the music was dramatically lessened by the fact that there were no speakers set up in this back room. Also the overhead lights stayed on all night whereas they were dimmed in the restaurant area. It was definitely not a "club type" atmosphere that the main restaurant tables enjoyed. The part that made us a bit angry was that we saw this setup on Saturday evening and wanted to make sure we weren't in the back on Sunday and asked about reserving a table in the main area for Sunday. We were specifically told by a hostess that there were no reserving of tables and that they were on a "first come...first served basis". We then made certain that we were there early on Sunday to be seated in the main restaurant. Although half of the tables were still vacant, low and behold, we were told they were reserved. I did explain to the hostess (manager?) that we were told that we could not reserve tables. All she did was apologize with no explanation as we were led past all of these empty tables to the back banquet room. Even though we overtipped every service person all weekend long (by the way, the waitresses were great), I wonder if our mistake was not attempting to "pay off" a hostess in advance to reserve us a table (is this how the vacant tables were "reserved"?). The lame atmosphere in the back room did diminish the New Year's Eve experience a bit for us. By the way, it's an easy fix. Just wire the back banquet room with a couple of speakers and perhaps diminish the lights.
We would definitely patronize The Montego Bay Resort again for a regular stay but perhaps not for one of their various party type weekends. Sorry for the novel.

A great vacation - if you have kids only (some weekends) ...
We also stayed here for the June soccer tournament, first check the Wildwoods calendar for the festivities on the week / weekends you are staying. I felt bad for any couples without kids who stayed here or 95% of the hotels on the island that weekend. Off season it would be perfect for couples or honeymooners. Not one condo on this island has facilities or the help of a Hilton for a weekend with a thousand kids, but with a 100 people in our group it was one of the funnest weekends of the year.
First if you are not familiar with Wildwood it is mostly mom and pop operations - some do not even take credit cards. Their attractions beat most vacation spots and even if you are a snob your kids will never want to go anywhere else - ever...
There are a hundred resteraunts, clubs, bars shops within a mile so prices are low if you look around. You can find everythign from Snow Whites 2 hotdogs for 99 cents to a $60 steak.
If you want to be at the shore remotely go to Brigatine, Avalon or even Cape May for the upper crust.

I came here this summer with some friends. When we got there we had so much stuff and had a room on the 3rd floor. We didn't want to walk up many steps with all our stuff but we eneded up having to because the elevator was so slow. I don't know why it is even there. We stayed in the biggest room possible. It was very nice. It was clean. The indoor waterpark was so nice. I loved the slide. Downside was that the water could have been warmer and the hot tub was too crowded. The outdoor pool was terrible. My pool at home is about 2 times the size of this one. Also it was dirty (you couldn't see the bottom). One day they had free hot dogs out at the pool. Adam's restaurant was nice. They had a huge menu but prices were on the high side. Overall, it was great and we are going back next summer.

We had a large group that booked rooms for an annual soccer tournament in Cape May. We had been told by friends that it was a nice place and that if we booked early, we could get all of the team families in together. The webste is very helpful and the indoor pool and slide was a big draw for us, especially staying there in October. We all got rooms without a problem.

Our room was on the side opposite the beach but still had a decent beach view as the balcony was on the hotel interior and the design of the hotel is a horseshoe. The room was extremely large, very clean and obviously recently remodeled. For the price, a beachfront room of this size with a FULL kitchen and two bedrooms, it was a terrific value.

Ok, the king size bed was on the hard-side, and the elevators were teeny and extremely slow, but these things can be overlooked in the big picture.

Don't hesitate to book at the Montego Bay.

  • Liked — Large rooms, location
  • Disliked — Elevators were slow and small.
