We stayed at the Super 8 in North Bergan after reading multiple travel sites and customer reviews. I can honestly say that it exceeded my expectations. Having stayed in Super 8 motels before, I knew what to expect--buget-minded accommodations. This was fine, as we were visiting area colleges for several days and wanted to be close to NYC so we could also catch a Broadway show one night. It worked out perfectly for us! The $106 room had new carpet and was clean. The sheets were soft, there was plenty of towels, wireless internet, hair dryer, toiletries and a refrigerator. The desk clerks smiled and were competent. We loved the fact that the non-affiliated shuttle bus picked us up in front of the motel and took us directly to the city for $2.50 per person. It is located on a busy road, yet the in-wall air conditioner prevented us from hearing any outside noise. Others staying here appeared to be families--no shady characters--so we always felt safe. If you are looking for an inexpensive place to stay with the basic necessities close to NYC, I would definitely recommend staying here. We certainly will the next time we are in the area!

Where do I start...like most, my husband and I were looking for a cheap place to stay while visiting NYC. I came upon this Super 8 and decided to give it a try. I was surprised by the area. I thought it would be nicer. It didn't look that bad at first, but then I felt a little concerned when the staff at the motel was completely behind glass, and there were printed tips in our room basically telling you how to not get robbed while staying there...yikes. Overall, the room was clean. As a young adventurous couple, we felt pretty safe, but I would never stay there if we had kids. The breakfast was pretty good. Waffle maker, hard boiled eggs, cereal, donuts, juice...the basics. The shuttle was ok. It came often, but was always packed with locals. It is not a Super 8 shuttle. It's public transportation. It drops you off at the Port Authority right by Times Square so that is nice. The latest one back though was at 11pm, so we were stuck paying $60 for cabs to come back each night. I'm not sure if I would stay here again. Now that we are more familiar with NYC I think we'll just look to see if we can spend a little more and just stay anywhere in Manhattan.

My friend and I stayed in this hotel for a week while we toured New York City and took in some Yankees games.

For the money we paid, $90 a night, I have no complaints at all. Our room and beds were clean, we felt safe and the hotel offered a great continental breakfast with cereals, fruits, coffee, tea and juices, along with toast, bagels, donuts and even a waffle maker.

I never experienced any problems with the service at the hotel. Check in was easy, they have several pages printed with bus information and we loaded our bags into our room in no time.

The $2 mini bus was great. It runs from 6am with the last bus leaving NYC at about 12:40am. It took between 15 and 45 minutes to get into Times Square depending on the time of day. It never took more than 20 minutes to get back to the hotel in the evening.

When boarding the bus in the city, make sure you tell the driver you're going to the Super 8 and he'll drop you off at a gas station about a block away. They cannot drop you off at the hotel because of the way to highway and roads around the hotel work.

I don't have anything bad to say about my experience at the Super 8 North Bergen. It was close to NYC with extremely easy access to downtown without the insane prices of Manhattan.

Don't kid yourself, this isn't the Hilton or a Hampton Inn. It's a low-cost accommodation that's clean and safe and since i didn't plan on spending a lot of time in the room, a place to sleep was all I wanted.

We were looking for a more affordable place to stay in or around New York City and we found it here at the super 8 North Bergen, NJ. We decided to stay at this hotel, based on the recommendations of a co-worker and based on the description of the property provided through WyndhamReward.com. I couldnt believe the value. a hotel just outside of New York City for around $100 per night? And the hotel provide a shuttle to and from New York City? WOW!
We arrived at the hotel around 11:30am. The hotel looked ok, but the neighborhood looked a little questionable. Check-in was not until 3pm but we decided to give it a try since the motel parking lot was fairly empty. We walked in to the lobby and approached the check-in booth which is encapsulated in bulletproof glass. No greeting was given, just a simple "can I help you". I gave them the check-in information and they asked me if I would like to check-in early. I told them that if a room was available it would be nice. I was told in a not so friendly manor that they had several rooms available but I would be charged $45 extra if I checked in before 3pm. Huh? I dont know how anyone else feels about this but any hotel I have EVER stayed at provided the room as a courtesy if it was available upon arrival. I told them nevermind and we would return at 3pm. So, we went off to New York City where we took advantage of what the hotel claims to be a "service provided by the hotel", which I will discuss in full detail later.
Zooming ahead forward, we return to check-in. My room key card was handed to me without having to present any ID what-so-ever. It made me feel a little nerveous since it seemed anyone could get a room key simply by presenting a name at the desk. Finally getting into our room, its nothing impressive but looks like it will do. However, there were a few moths flying around the room (not too unusual for the season) and I found two dirty used tissues (gross) laying next to the bed. The sheets smelled nice and clean, the beds were hard and the pillows were comfortable.
The A/C blows very cold, the shower was descent, bathrooms clean and there was a mini-fridge, iron and ironing board available in the room. Vending machines on the property are outrageously priced. $1.25 for a can of soda and $1 for a pack of crackers!
The free continental breakfast which they call their "super starter" super sucked. It consisted of white bread for toasting, not so fresh donuts, boiled eggs, cereal and waffles. The waffles were the best option but plan on waiting in a rather long line. Drink options consisted of orange tang, tea and a juice machine that dispensed rather watered down juices. There was a coffee pot which remained off while I was there and another coffee machine which cost $0.50 a cup. So much for free continental breakfast. I guess they gotta get you somewhere.

Now about the shuttle service. We decided to take advantage of the shuttle service that the hotel claims to provide to their guests. Assuming this was a free service, we hoped on shabby looking shuttle (somehow without paying) and headed into the city. We spend most of the day in the city and returned to the assigned shuttle pickup/drop-off point. As we go to board the bus a man that spoke horrible english asks for $2. I said "is this the complimentary shuttle for super 8?" The man said "Yes, we stop at the super 8, $2". After a long heated argument, explaining what the word "complimentary" means in ENGLISH, being laughed at by the shuttle service's owner and a call to the hotel, I find out that this is not a service provided by the hotel. It is a service provided to any local in NJ by a hispanic owned and operated company as an alternative to the local bus service and the hotel had arranged for them to make a stop in front of the hotel for pick-up only. Drop-off is at a regular public bus stop about a block away. On our way back to the hotel, I noticed that the bus completely passed the regular turn to the super 8. Assuming that he was making his rounds, I said nothing at first, until he jumped onto the highway. I walked up front and asked him when he would stop at the super 8. He response was "oh man, oh man, we're way past there, you should have said something. I'm also informed by a passenger that we're atleast an hour before we make our rounds back to the super 8. Now after the long heated argument with this shuttle driver and the owner about going to the super 8, you would think that there would be no mistaking where we are going. And since when do you ever have to ask to be dropped off? The shuttle driver gets on the radio and radios back to dispatch and tells them the situation. Clearly over the radio I hear a voice say "too bad, thats their [--] fault". At this point I'm really mad but the shuttle driver finally arranges for us to board another passing shuttle that assured us that it would stop at the super 8. I then learn that the bus actually doesnt drop off at the super 8. It only does pick-ups there and drop-offs are done at a regular bus stop about a block away. After this whole experience, I recommend the public bus, especially if you are going to be making multiple trips in a day or if you will be out late, because you can buy a day pass and the public transit operates much later. The shuttle service basically strums up business by stopping at all the regular public transit bus stops and doing it more frequently, however, if you follow the bus schedule (available in the motel) you can board it a block away, follow the same route and still get dropped off at the port authority terminal in NYC.

Super 8 North Bergen

Arrived at 10 am with my uncle´s family, and manager wanted to charge extra for the kids when website said kids stayed for free and they confirmed the same on the phone two months in advance!. The rooms had no daylight and smelled terrible suposedly non-smoking and they were not in good shape. We said we wanted not to stay and the manager said he was charging for the night anyway. They said Manhattan was 10 min away and it took us 1 hour at 11am on a tuesday to get there.

We said we were calling super 8 hot line and he said ¨I´m privately owned and I set the rules!. Super 8 has nothing to do.¨

We said fine, we are not checking in, so he said he was charging for the two rooms.

Location is ok, but there is better options more cost effective around the corner. I´m staying at the comfor suites and its perfect.

Thanks, Seb
