“Wedding Weekend Wonderful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2012

Spent 3 days with the folks at the Wooden Duck with the ladies in my wedding party and then new husband. We stayed in the Bufflehead room which was pure decadence. A big bed, big bathtub and cozy fireplace. The rooms and facility were immaculate, well appointed and Carol the maid was fantastic. Inn keepers Karl and Beth are magic. Beth's cooking is out of this world, great coffee, bird watching and hospitality at its simplest, and therefore finest. We WILL be back and we can't wait.

Room Tip: Bufflehead is decadent! Has its own private parking spot and entrance.

Wow! I have to agree with most of the other reviewers. The Wooden Duck Inn is a real treasure. Forget about the property, the idyllic location, the abundance of nearby activities in the New Jersey Skylands region. This is about the innkeepers, Karl and Beth. We have never experienced the kind of treatment that we did at the Wooden Duck from our gracious hosts. From the tour of the inn, to neatness of the place, to the delicious breakfast in the dining room being mesmerized by the birds in the bird feeder...this was a great night away from home. For anyone being turned off by the string of really nasty reviews by a wedding "party", forget that. This place is for you if you're looking for a neat getaway to a part of the Garden State that most people don't know about (but should). If you're more of the "Jersey Shore"-type crowd, go to Seaside Park, Wildwood or Atlantic City and leave the Wooden Duck Inn for the rest of us!

Room Tip: Get a room with soaking tube in the room...just remember to open the windows to help deal with the s...

We spent 4 nights at the Duck in August and found the grounds and hospitality to be great. Breakfast was also great. When we returned to our room after breakfast our room we tydied up and beds were made. Special kudos to Jim who went out of his way to return an article I had left behind.

We have been staying in B&Bs for over 15 years now and the Wooden Duck is far and away our number one choice in New Jersey. I can't even think of one thing that I would change about the place...the food, the location, the company, the friendliness just proves that B&Bs are a treasure I hope we never loose. You can't get the flavor of an area staying in a hotel. You can't get the friendliness staying in a motel... Get back to nature and stay in a B&B... and while you're at it, stay at the Wooden Duck in Newton, New Jersey... You won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: the two person deep tub was worth the price of the bubble bath... excellent choice...

My husband & I visited this B & B for our anniversary. We were met by Trina and Jim who are great innkeepers. Jim is a kind of clown and that's what makes him special but he is right on the money when he is "playing" serious. If you need a restaurant, just ask them, they won't steer your wrong. Trina's breakfasts are outrageous, and she is such a nice person to talk to. We also had the opportunity to meet the owners Beth & Karl. I can understand why this B&B is # 1. It is immaculate. Karl loves to talk about the bears that visit, he even has pictures, just ask! Beth is a gracious hostess/owner/innkeeper.

This inn is secluded among trees and is the first one we visited that had a pool. Just wish it was a little warmer but Ken ventured in. You feel so at home there. The guest kitchen is stocked with soft drinks and munchies. Their game room has a billiard table, board games, tapes and magazines for the guests.

The breakfast room overlooks the pool, bird feeder and tree lined property. In the living room you can sit back and read the news paper or just hang out and talk. The rooms are nicely decorated (I asked Karl to show them all to me one morning). Every morning a group of deer played on the grassy hill that we could view from our room.

Thanks to their "Dustng Ducks" our room was immaculate. We can't wait to return here again, what a great Inn.

As a business traveler who spends over 100 nights a year in hotels and bnbs, the Duck is the best. I have stayed here many times over the past year. The peace and quiet is wonderful, the hosts are friendly and very accommodating of requests. The breakfast is the best I have had anywhere, including fancy hotels. The rooms are extremely clean and comfortable. Whether on business or looking for nature this place is first rate.

Many thanks for this comment and all of the other positive comments we have received.

We are pleased to hear this particular guest's opinion of the Wooden Duck Inn. He has pointed out the values which we treasure. Our goal is to provide a very tranquil and peaceful environment so that people from the big cities and the busy companies can find a few minutes of peace and solitude in a relaxed atmosphere. We try to give all of our guests a great place to relax and enjoy a delicious breakfast in a neat and clean facility.

We believe that it is imperative for us to respond to negative reviews, and we often feel that we are being negligent when we do not respond to the positive ones. But there are times when some of these positive reviews touch our hearts. This is one of those times.

As you may gather, we had a rather difficult wedding party stay with us just before Labor Day, and we have been troubled ever since by the negative reviews that group has posted. We truly appreciate the support our other guests have shown to us by the positive reviews they are posting. THANK YOU!

My husband and I live in New Zealand though I am from NJ originally. My parents are still in the area and while we were back visiting them, they offered to take care of their 1 year old grandson and treat us to a stay at the Wooden Duck. The Wooden Duck was the perfect setting for our first nights away from our son as "just a couple" again. The two person tub in the room by the fire was a great place to relax and the room had all the modern ammenities we needed (sadly having to check in online to our jobs back in NZ with the WiFi throughout the inn). Jim and Trina were wonderful hosts and breakfasts were plentiful and delicious. We have travelled all over the world with our jobs and this is one of the nicest places we have ever stayed at. Looking forward to taking advantage of my parents' desire to see their grandson and staying there again.
