“Very comfy place to crash for the night”

Continental Airlines suggested this hotel when I ended up with an unexpected overnight layover due to bad weather and a canceled flight. The checkin and checkout were both zippity-quick and the front desk people very polite. The lobby is clean and warm-looking. My room had a tall king-sized bed that waa one of the most comfy I"ve ever slept on, and there were at least six pillows in all different thicknesses. The sheets were soft and pretty. The bathroom sink was gigantic and the bathroom is stocked with Bath & Body Works spa shampoo/conditioner/soap and lotion - really great stuff. The hotel was very quiet and I slept great.

The view out my window was just of a building wall, and one very odd thing - the bathroom door did not close because the toilet was in the way! Very strange! I could see the dents on the door from people trying to force it closed. If it hadn't been only me staying the night, I would have requested a different room.

I noticed breakfast stuff being laid out in the lobby (continental?) - it looked really delicious but I had to catch my shuttle back to the airport. Checkout literally took 30 seconds at the front desk.

However, if you need a place to crash for one night, this hotel is the place for a pampered, good night's sleep.

    • Liked — quiet, luxurious bed, spa bath stuff, only $130/night
    • Disliked — bathroom door didn't close

RBC booked us a room here on my credit card. My wife and I showed up with reservation in hand at 2am, as scheduled, with our 2 children after being up for 19 hours, hoping to get a few hours rest before getting up for an 8:45 am flight. We were told they had given our room away and that we could get a room in Parsippany !! They refused to cover the extra expense required to get from Parsippany Hampton to Newark Airport. Nice folks - not one word of apology. I felt really badly for the bride and groom who walked in as we were leaving. I would not send my worst enemy here. Reserve a room here at your own risk.

We are sorry and embarrassed. But most of all, we are deeply sorry.

That night was one of the most challenging operational days we have experienced. We lost communication with our main computer system, which caused an overbooked situation. Words can express how truly sorry we are for the inconvenience and frustration that was caused.
Please accept my apologies, and I can only hope that you will give us another opportunity to try to regain your trust.

“Good deal, but difficult to find”

Wyndham Garden Hotel Newark Airport

Apr 24, 2008

I got a very good deal at this hotel ($70/night), and at first I was not impressed by the exterior or the location. Upon entering, the lobby was centrally located between a newspaper kiosk and a snack bar. Check-in was quick, and the room was recently renovated with free high-speed internet. Parking is also free, a major plus for an airport hotel.

The only drawback of this hotel is that it is VERY difficult to enter when arriving from the south on US 1. The hotel should make a note on its website to advise people that they need to carefully follow directions to reach the hotel.

Did not find the staff to be professional: at the airport, gate agent called this hotel and recorded that the staff had promised a suite for our family of Five. Once we arrived at the hotel, the front desk staff completely denied that this conversation ever occurred, laughing at our naivete and made us pay for an extra room, arguing with aplomb that american airlines agents routinely swindle passengers by promising better accomodations than the hotel agrees too (and faking conversations with hotels with oscar worthy performances?). Non-smoking rooms smelled like smoke. The rooms, though relatively new, were depressing. The gym was disastrously small with either broken or cheap equipment.

Took shuttle one week ago and again today (4/11/2008). Driver had religious fire and brimstone program on (Cresfalo Dollar (s?)) on the first run and I let it go. Second time, this morning at about 9:15 I was sitting in front bench seat with inoperative seatbelt and asked driver If I could switch from the religious program to the news. His remark, "This has the news". He asked in an unfriendly manner if I didn't like it and I said yes. He turned it down.
Neighborhood not very appealing, but location convenient to airport.
I hope that management fixes the safety discrepancy on the seatbelt.
