“lorna murphy, great hotel.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2013

We enjoyed staying at this hotel because it is lovely decor and very clean and comfortable and we had seven peaceful nights sleeps, and there was good choice of food at breakfast and the times of breakfast were good [6am to 11am] to suit early risers or late risers . Also the staff were friendly and helpful . Also the hotel is in a good location for amenities.

Room Tip: Probably all the rooms are as nice as ours was.

We stayed at the Robert Treat for a weekend while visiting our son. It was a lovely hotel, very nicely appointed with marble and brass and chandeliers. The room was clean & the beds comfortable. Our room had a fridge and coffeemaker. We especially liked the free breakfast which consisted of many items including pancakes, oatmeal, eggs, muffins, bagels, cereals and more. The breakfast ladies were really friendly. The front desk people were very professional & helpful. There was a rooftop patio area but it was locked. The area is not the greatest & the parking is tight but at least its free. All in all it is a very nice hotel and not super expensive.

This hotel is very well located in Newark, close to the railway station, and has a free shuttle bus that will take you to Liberty airport. From the Penn Station, there are trains to NYC frequently, and they only take 20 minutes, at very reasonable rates.

The hotel itself looks very good. The interior ceiling is very interesting, and it looks more expensive than it actually is. The rooms are very pleasant, with rooms at the back giving views of the River Possaic and New York City in the distance. The rooms are well equipped, with an excellent shower, and free tea and coffee facilities, either in your room, or at the end of the hall on each floor. The rooms aren't massive, but again for the prices, they are excellent value.

The staff at reception were not particularly helpful, with one lady forgetting we were there at check in, and then leaving. However the other staff were very good. The breakfast was excellent. It is self serve, although there is at least one attendant there, who is very good. There is a wide selection of cereals, toast, bagels, muffins, eggs and more. The only downside is that they use plastic plates and cutlery which is not recycled after use. There are also other facilities such as a gym and business centre.

The area surrounding the hotel isn't the best. Newark isn't a place you would want to hang around, but this hotel gives those wishing to visit New York a much cheaper and easily accessable way to do this. The hotel is just across from the NJPAC too, and not far from the Prudential Centre.

Room Tip: Rooms looking out towards New York offer the best views. The lifts are very fast, so the floor doesn...

My review title is a little tongue-in-cheek. The hotel is nice - the room I stayed in was a reasonable size, comfortable and clean and in a great location for both Newark airport (via the free 24-hour, half-hourly courtesy bus - 15 mins to the airport) or New Jersey Transit to New York (station - a 5 / 10 minute walk away or the courtesy bus will take you there too, then a 20 minute / $5 ride on the train).

My only grumbles are: usual miscellaneous hotel noises (rumblings through the windows, occasional muffled bangings and some guests who clearly thought they were the only ones occupying the place) and the restaurant. I would rate the food there as 'OK' rather than really great and the staff likewise 'OK' but a little indifferent. It was OK for a night just before a flight home but would have been disappointing for more of an occasion.

Room Tip: If you're a light sleeper or are sensitive to noise - take earplugs!

This hotel is a great location for entry into lower New York by use of Path train only. Breakfast is good and the hostess for the breakfast was good however Security personel and hotel receptionist need some work on greeting. Other than that you must consider that you are in Newark and transportation to and from Manhatten area only.

The location of the hotel is quite good. The rooms are clean and nice. The hotel shuttle driver is very friendly and is on top of his job. The restaurant attenders are not friendly and needs improvement. The front desk officers/receptionist need to learn more about customer service. They promised to check up something in my room after I complained but never turned up. That was so unfortunate and I couldn't wait to leave the hotel after two days stay. It seems "night club girls" patronises the hotel a lot and I was a bit uncomfortable during my stay because of my strong Christian values.

Room Tip: Please insist on a non-smoking room if you do not smoke.

This hotel is ideal if you are visiting New York but do not want to pay Manhatten prices, Newark station is 5 mins walk away and you can be downtown in 20 via the path train. The hotel itself is very clean and comfortable, the staff are friendly and polite, the only concern was the lack of space in the breakfast room. The local area was safe enough to walk back from the station at night, but the hotel shuttle will come and get you if you want. Overall i can highly recommend this hotel.
