“Friendly, Accommodating Staff Sets the Hotel Apart”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013

I recently traveled to Newark, NJ on business and was pleasantly surprised by the friendly attentive staff at this hotel. Several of the managers and front desk staff went out of their way to be helpful and make sure my needs were met. The hotel is in a good location, near the NJ Devils stadium in the revitalizing downtown Newark NJ area. Clean rooms and lots of fast food options in the shopping center attached to the hotel are a plus. Also, Dino BBQ across the street from the hotel is a great option - good BBQ by anyone's standards. Looking forward to staying here again.

Does not have same Honors Program as most Hilton Properties. No access to club room unless you are on club floor. Once they are full, thy give a voucher to restaurant. Nice but takes too long. Staff were friendly, rooms were fine, but Honors Policy is restrictive.

Clean rooms. Good location. Right opposite Newark Penn station. 15 minute train ride to New York Penn station. We didn't have a free breakfast but it was OK. There is a Starbucks right next to the reception.

This is not the typical Hilton experience. The restaurant and fitness center are small for the size of the hotel. However, the hotel is walking distance Ferry St. which has many excellent restaurants. You may not enjoy a job around the neighborhood given all the homeless people who look like they had a job at one time: not the typical homeless suffering from illness or alcoholism who tend to hang closer to Newark Penn Station. The staff make up for all this with their friendliness. The hotel is about a 20 to 25 minute train ride into the city on NJ Transit. I am not sure about NJ Path, some of the locals discourage taking it into the city. There are interesting sites near the hotel but they are not open Monday thru Wednesdays. You could stay closer to the airport, spend less money and still take the train into NYC but you may never be able to get to the hotel. The roads around the airport are under construction and most of the roads seem to keep looping. The hotel is partially renovated. They decided to keep the dark doors which clashes with the modern interiors but the doors are old fashion, heavy doors that block sound from the hallways. There is still lots of noise from the streets typical for a big city.

Room Tip: The end rooms have king beds and bigger baths with double sinks separated in two rooms, great for co...

The hotel accommodations and staff were very well, similar to what I have come to expect from Hilton hotels. However, the restaurant food was very poor in terms of flavor and service (very slow). This is unfortunate and unlike a Hilton.

I enjoyed my overnight stay at this hotel. It is convenient to Manhattan (as long as you do not mind taking public transit) and only about 20 minutes from EWR.

The rooms are clean and the amenities are good quality, typical Hilton items (they are using PeterThomasRoth stuff these days). The front desk staff are fine. They had the AC on and blasting at 65 when I entered the room which was fresh but must waste energy.

The EWR shuttle runs on the hour in the morning and is comfortable. To get to the shuttle from EWR, you have to take the SkyTrain to a nearby parking lot. Rather than that silliness, I just took a taxi which cost $15.

I went in to the city on the PATH (cheapest option at $2.25 each way) which gets you to the World Trade Center station and then I subwayed up to SoHo. The whole trip took about 45 minutes and cost $10 return.

I wound up with this hotel when agreeing to an online offer for discounted rates for unknown 3 1/2 star hotels near EWR. The rate was below $100 including tax which is good value for money. Although I am an Hhonors member, because of the discount, I was informed I would receive no points and was told by the quite pleasant person who checked me in that booking through third parties was not "loyal" of me so I should not be surprised that there would be no rewards. I would rather have the discount, frankly, as the Hilton site offered the room at over $200/night. That is a high price for loyalty.

I would recommend the hotel.

Room Tip: I was on the 8th floor (831) on the elevator side and the room had a reasonable view of the facade o...
