“Nasty location; broken gym; though good value”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2009

The location is nasty. If this is your first time in NJ, you will consider turning around to your originating destination. While trying to find the hotel, you will immediately find yourself frustrated. As you see the hotel from the distance, you will have no idea how to get there (combined with NJ drivers honking and yelling "get outta the way you knucklehead / screwball"). There is only one entrance to the hotel, so be ready to turn. There is no such thing as turning around either - if you miss it, you are automatically penalized with paying a toll.

The service is average. The cleaning and breakfast staff is probably the best, as they do their job well. Front desk staff needs a lot of work. It's clear the front desk staff treat this as their "day-to-day" job, and not a career in the hospitality industry.

Problems experienced include dead batteries in the TV remote, no shampoo for 2 days (instead, they generously gave me a handful of conditioner...gee thanks) and a gym that hasn't received service in years. It's unfortunate the gym was so bad - and I doubt they care to fix it, even though I'm sure they realize the machines are broken. The elliptical makes a constant thud, making it impossible to workout.

Breakfast is good. The staff there is friendly and polite, though I imagine the overall hotel environment has decreased their morale through the years.

Overall, I would not stay here again if I had a choice.

Due to a family emergency, we had to change our travel plans. We checked into SpringHill Suites at about 2 in the morning on New Years Day. The shuttle picked us up at the airport and brought us to the hotel with no problems. Check in was quick. The room was fine. There is a half wall that separates the bed from the pull out couch, so there was some privacy. There are two computers with a printer available for internet access. The breakfast was complimentary and first class. Check out was very quick.

I have no problems recommending this hotel.

We had booked a cruise leaving New York City and wanted to spend a few days touring the city but didn't want to spend $400++ on a hotel room the size of a broom closet.

A friend told us about the Springhill Suites in Newark and we decided to give this a try as we were flying into Newark.

Arrived at 5:30 PM and took a long trek to the shuttle, punched in the Springhill two digit number on the pad and spoke to a man who said we had to reserve the shuttle. I asked him to phone it over for us as we had no access to a phone. Turns out the shutttle runs every half hour and you do not need to phone. The shuttle serves Springhill Suites, Courtyard By Marriot and Fairfields?? (the other hotel chain owned by Marriot) the three hotels are side by side.

We are checked in by very friendy staff who give us some restaurant flyers that the hotel uses for clients who want something delivered to their rooms. Our phone isn't working propely the first night so we end up walking over to Courtyard By Marriot for burgers, sandwiches and chicken fingers.

The *suite* is a large room that has a wall divider extending about half way through the room that seperates the queensize bed from the sofa and table. The TV stand is in the middle that allows bed and sofa bed to see the ty with a bit of careful positioning. Don't expect a private one bedroom suite.

The room is very very clean and comfortable the furniture is dated but that is fine. Loved the shower pressure and bathroom is more then clean :)

We used the free internet in the business center also my son and husband used the pool and liked it.

Breakfast buffet was good and plentiful with pre-made egg omelet typ patties, sausage rounds, english muffins to build a do-it-yourself Egg Muffin. Different types of cold cereals, fruit, yogurts, different types of milks in cartons, pastries, muffins, a do-it-yourself waffle station with batter already mixed up, the oatmeal was very good and as much as I wanted to try the waffles after eating yogurt, fruit and oatmeal I sadly never made it to the waffle station. This is included in the hotel price and is a very good spread.

Each day we caught a cab ($25 with tip) to the Newark Penn Station and caught the train into NYC. The last day we caught a car service which ended up costing $160 (my husband forget his backpack and we realized this after the first toll booth and had to reutrn for it, the driver charged us an extra $45 plus toll )

We saved hundreds of dollars staying here vs a NYC hotel room the last night before the cruise we stayed at Sheraton Towers (used my starwood points) and WOW great location but the Sheraton entire room including bathroom would have fit into part of the Springhill Suites mini suite that my husband and I used with the queen sized bed.

I would stay here again :)

After a last minute amazing trip to the Niagara Falls, which led to change my orginal hotel reservation. I got booked to stay at Springhill Suites Newark Airport for two nights.
I couldn't been happier or satisfied.
With the service (from checking in/out, attending my questions and helping out) to the facilities they offer. Free Internet connection in the room or use of the business center. 24h reliable shuttle pick up/drop off. So in other words what you can expect from an Airport Hotel.
The room was nice, clean and big divided in a living/working room and sleeping room.
This is not my first time staying at a Marriott's partner Hotel so I know what to expect and this hotel has it all.
Breakfast was enough to fill me up till lunch time and had plenty of Healthy choices (fresh fruits, yoghurts and oatmeal)
Didn't use the pool nor fitness room, but did check it out! It's not big but then again it's an airport hotel where most of the guest stay a night or two. I never waited more than 10 minutes to get picked up at the airtrain P4 station.
SpringHill shares ground and the shuttle service with two other Marriott's partner hotels, so there was time that the shuttle was packed.
Never the less out of the many New Jersey hotel I've stayed, SpringHill has become my favourite and will be from now on my first choice!
Tip: Ask at the front desk what time the shuttle leaves from the Hotel. That way you don't have to wait long in lobby.
The rooms on the odd number side has a nice view of NYC (see my picture)

We booked tons of rooms for our family reunion. The staff was accomodating and helpful with printed directions to just about everywhere and the airport shuttle was great for those who flew in.

After a 12 hr. drive from Chicago, we found the accomodations clean and comfy. Our Fri. night Fish Fry was held in the larger meeting room. It was a bit tight but, there were a lot of us. We utilized ALL of the amenities: pool and jacuzzi, exercise room, business center with two computers and printer, card playing in the breakfast area at night. Even did our laundry in the 2nd fl. facility.

The morning breakfast was very pleasant and plentiful. They ran out of the oatmeal but, upon my asking, promptly made up another batch for the quests. Coffee, the morning paper, good conversation with family..hit the spot.

Our room had two double beds and sleeper sofa for the three of us. Beds were very comfy but sofa bed was not good for adults. We brought provisions and used the fridge and microwave everyday.

Negatives: getting onto the property was hell everyday. Again, GPS does you no good! What were the road engineers thinking? No place to even walk as you're surrounded by expressways. Great hotel, terrible location. Despite the problems with getting onto the property, we'd gladly return.

We just returned from a family vacation, 4 night stay at the SpringHill Suites Newark and commuted into the city every day. It is super easy to get into NYC from the hotel, we just parked our car at the NJ Penn Station, parking lot across the street ($8.00/day) and took the train right into the NY Penn Station. From there we walked less than 8 blocks and we were right in Times Square. It took less than 20 min on the train each way and the wait time for a train was mere minutes. The cost for the train is $3.50 one-way, very affordable.
The FREE breakfast at the hotel was a great start to our day, continental but there is a waffle maker and 2 hot items every day (eggs, sausage). Lots of variety and the hot chocolate was a big hit with the kids.
The rooms were very nice, and fit our family comfortably, 2 double beds and a pull-out couch. The mini fridge was great for drinks but we really didn't use the microwave but it was nice to have. The housekeeping staff did an excellent job as rooms were very clean every day.
The staff were average, most of the front desk staff were very helpful with instructions as to how to get into the city and nearby restaurants. It is wasn't so hard to find with the GPS but we had a horrible time trying to find our way back to the hotel after we went out for dinner as our GPS died. It is in a horrible location in terms of the highways but it is close to the airport and you can't even hear the planes.
We didn't have time to use the pool but it looked nice and the hot tub was great.
Overall, this was a very affordable way of doing a NYC holiday, minus the very expensive NYC hotel costs.

Our car ride from Montreal, Quebec, Canada to Newark was painless. But eventhough we had a GPS and on the hotel's site, it was said to enter an address, our GPS could not find it. Once near the airport, we found the hotel on «other points of interest» in the surrounding area. But as another reviewer said, it was very hard to get to. People drive so fast. It is easy to pass right by. We always thought Quebec drivers were the worst, we have been surpassed!!

We had a nice room, beds super confortable. Never heard a plane eventhough we were near the airport. Kids loved breakfast which was good. We were 5 in the room, but housekeeping would never bring 5 towels for all of us. I called reception twice, but never got the additional towels.

Nice hotel overall. Reception clerks not overly friendly. We asked for directions to N.Y. My oh my.....What an adventure. For first time vacationners, it was impossible to understand where to go and how the transportation worked. If you take Bus #62 from the airport, bring lots of change and $1. It costs $1.35/adults and $0.70/child in exact change. We were told to get off the bus once because we did not have the correct change. Then once you get to Penn Station, Newark, you have 2 option: The PATH or the NJ Train. The PATH is less expensive but we were told you had to make connections. The NJ Train is more or less $7.25/each way/adults and a little less for kids but you get off at Madison Square Garden (Penn Station NY) which is quite central. We were in the States 4 days, we did not have much time. Travel time from hotel to NY = 1.5 hours. Way Too Long.

Our trip was wonderful, we can't wait to go back (but a little closer!!)
