This is a beautifully decorated hotel with minimal amenities. I'd recommend it if you were attending an event at the Prudential Center, because it's literally right behind it. All you do is walk out of the doors and make two lefts. It's on the same block, almost touching the hotel. This is nice because the neighborhood is terrible and you don't want to walk far, especially at night. When I say terrible, I mean it. There are not one, but two nail salons, a bail bonds place, and a pawn shop directly across the street. Cars honk every 40 seconds or so and the people in the neighborhood are poverty stricken with lots of winos wandering around. Ladies, clutch your purse and don't wear skimpy clothing.
The rooms are clean and good for short stays. If you're vegan, don't expect much from the bar/cafe they have, just take a cab to a restaurant or bring your own food. There is a little refrigerator and some tea packets. The tv channels are diverse and you can kill a good amount of time surfing, since there's nothing to do in the neighborhood. If you get stir crazy, this may not be the hotel for you. There are no movie theaters or shopping centers within safe winter walking distance. The elevators are fast and they have a shuttle to the airport (that likes to leave earlier than it's supposed to). The taxi fare is around $25 to/from the airport. Their pillows are really nice too, weird observation perhaps, but you'll see what I mean if you stay there. Or maybe I just have crappy pillows at home that I'm used to. Overall, the Courtyard Marriott Newark Downtown is a good choice if there is an event at the Prudential Center you're attending.
