We purposely went to Dino's prior to an event in Madison Square Garden, since I work nearby and never went, rather than find a packed restaurant in NYC. I will say, I'm not a huge ribs/BBQ guy so I didn't hold that against them...my boys love that stuff. The food was good, but the experience seemed very well "planned". Each side that you have to order separately, if you want something with your entree...was almost too well measured, in very small paper/cardboard boat containers. My wife said she just needed more room to cut her salad, but the container was so small (seemed to be profit margin analysis, rather than, people-centric). There was not one of us who didn't like our entree. Best ever? Nah...but good. I don't know what I was thinkin' ordering a 1/2 pint of a local IPA beer, but it arrived in a glass dixie cup sized portion. A sip test for $3.95. I just never conceptualized a 1/2 pint, I guess it's that small..again..that was my decision, but a few sips for $3.95... nice business model. Be warned, and I read this prior...you WILL smell like BBQ when you leave. I thought I imagined it, until we sat at the Garden and it was like we were still in Dino's. It's not smoky to the eye...but was not a fan of smelling like I was in a smoker. That's just a poor business design, but if warned and not going to be in close quarters with people who hate BBQ afterward, it's just what happens when you go there. We did have a friendly server. He was energized and conversational. He also was somewhat of the mayor of the restaurant. I apologized in advance that we had to get back on a train to head into NYC, but I had to catch his attention to say we were ready to order...and to say we were ready to pay...place was fairly empty too. He did wish us a blessed trip. I do read people commenting about the area where Dino's is located. This area (around Pru Center) should not be considered Newark, by inner city standards. It has been refurbished and working nearby, we are always out about...no issues. Someone may ask for change...but if you are "threatened" by that...well, perhaps McDonalds in your neighborhood is a best bet. Point is, reading that this area is not recommended or safe, within Newark, is a joke. I wouldn't choose against going to Dino's for that reason. Unfortunately, for me, it mirrors what already existed. Quick fix corporate model restaurant fare that captures masses coming to and from Pru Center. I didn't hate it, but I will soon forget it and I don't think I have any reason to return. I will still wait for the possibility of nice climate controlled environment with food prepared for the individual. Other than the iron bound section, there has not been a hit around Pru Center yet, including long lost Brick City and the Ale House on the other side of the block. : ( You might consider putting all three in a food court at a mall, but if having to eat and seeing a show at Pru Center, with BBQ as desirable, then this is the best locally situated option...I guess
