“Did not stay but went for conference. Very nicely run!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2013

Last evening I attended a conference/meeting at this facility. It is conveniently located on the Cook/Douglass campus at Rutgers University. It is a retreat type facility with conference rooms and rooms for lodging. It is part new and part old in that part of it is the elegant Carpender estate once owned by Robert Wood Johnson's daughter. The newer faciltiy is attached to the estate home, so it is quite a lovely venue. It is convenient t9 287, the Turnpike, Route 1 and Easton Avenue. The catered appetizers served before the meeting were quite tasty and the staff was more than friendly. The inn has rooms which are also discounted for Rutgers alumna. From the photos in the lobby, it appears that the rooms are the red, black, white colors of Rutgers.

“Too many problems”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2012

The Rutgers Univ Inn & Conference Center was recently renovated and given this name.
My wife and I stayed here while settling our daughter, a new Rutgers student, into her dorm.
The place is attractively decorated, but:
the bed was too hard to sleep in,
our refrigerator was too noisy,
and, worst of all for me, the toilet seat was too close to the water level.
You may laugh, but I couldn't keep from dunking when sitting; extremely gross.
The price was a bargain, but I wouldn't want to stay here again. (My wife might.)
Also, you must pay in advance and there is no refund for cancellation or early departure.

“A real bargain at Rutgers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2012

- On the Rutgers campus. Ideal if you are visiting the campus.
- Less than $80 a night, including taxes. My room had two double beds, a refrigerator and a microwave.
- Rooms are comfortable and quiet with good internet and working desk, + a side chair.
- Not easy to find on internet, but website is stay.rutgers.edu
- Downside is that full payment is required at time of reservation
- Very helpful behind the desk

Room Tip: Room 103 is at the end of the hall way, very quiet and peaceful.

“Terrific deal and very comfortable place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2011

I don't know why some of the reviews are so negative. This place is in a charming old building with lovely grounds and is very quiet. It has nice, but not luxurious, rooms with all the amenities including a refrigerator/freezer. It has been fairly recently renovated, so everything is freshly painted and very clean. There's free wifi and hot drinks in the lobby. Also, several shared computers are available, but no fitness center. There is no restaurant, but accross the street is a student cafeteria with a terrific buffet breakfast for only $8. There's plenty of heat and a thermostat, so I'm not sure why one person was cold. A very large window in the room looks over trees in a park-like setting. The people at the desk are very friendly. The best is the price-only $ 79/night (including tax). Can't get a better deal in town. Very conveneinet for business at Rutgers University and the bus stop is right outside, so you don't even need a car to get around. The latter is a real plus, because parking is very restricted on the campus. The bus will also take you to the train station if you want to go to NY city.

“Badly needs renovations”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 19, 2009

Rooms are in bad need of renovations. Heating system is noisy, and in my room there was only one heater very far from the bathroom, so that taking a shower required quite a lot of courage. The dining room, where breakfast is served, is very cold. I happened to have a room separated by the nearby one just by a door, so the acoustic insulation was very bad. It is not the hotel's responsibility that my neighbor woke up at 6 am and turned on the radio very loudly, but a better acoustic insulation would help. One plus, if you are here for business at Rutgers, is that the location is served by the Rutgers buses, and this is no little advantage in an area where hotels are very sparse, and there is no public transportation.
