“Relaxing Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2014

We stayed here for just 1 night on our way to the Big Apple. We checked in around 8:30 in the evening. The check in was quick and easy. The Rooms are a little bigger than normal hotel rooms and the Bar was a nice touch. We all need a "Adult" beverage. Breakfast at the bistro was good and quick. NYC is about 40 minutes with no traffic from this property. Nice Stay, We will be back.!

This is not the worst property in the Marriott brand. That distinction probably belongs to a Marriott in eastern Ukraine. But this one comes close except for the lack of artillery fire. I am a loyal Marriott brand user and have a Silver Elite Rewards status. That seemed to mean nothing to the Courtyard Mt. Arlington. When I checked in I was given a Silver Elite passkey, but the room was on the second floor when my Rewards profile requests the highest floor available. When I went to get a baggage cart, my "oh-oh" alarm went off. All of the carts were dirty and had not even been swept or vacuumed. The elevator was in a similar condition. And then the room. The air conditioner alternated between blowing loudly (on the low fan setting) and making wheezing noises like Darth Vader. But that was the good part about the room because it was behind the elevator shaft and the HVAC air handlers for the hotel were on the roof immediately outside my window. Darth helped drown out the elevator noise and the compressors and fans outside. Also, although Marriott properties are supposed to be smoke-free, this one has an standing ashtray and a park bench conveniently located outside the lobby entrance so that non-smoking guests can walk through a cloud of cigarette smoke on their way in. Nice.

Is this really how a Marriott property should treat a Silver Rewards member? BTW, the hotel was far from full, judging by the near empty parking lot and no more than a dozen people in the lobby bistro in the morning and the early evening.

Will not stay here again and plan to complain to Marriott Rewards for the first time ever.

I find Courtyards to be average at best. This property COULD be 4 ... Or even 5 stars, but it's not there. The staff is very nice, which is 1/2 the battle. There was a Tuesday "Manager Reception" where they served wings (that were delicious) and one cocktail. Awesome touch - this is the 1st Courtyard that I have ever stayed at that did a reception. The lobby is very spacious and nice (you could do a small meeting if necessary). Downsides: the rooms need help and some details are missed. Although the bed was fine, some extra housekeeping details are needed. For example - there is hair on the bathroom door (submitted picture), and the bathroom tile floor is needing help - hard to tell if it is truly clean.

Larger Courtyard with full bar and new over priced Bistro. Plenty of parking & larger than normal rooms with fridge. Beds very comfortable Property a little older, but very well kept. Very convenient to Route 80 about 45 mins to NYC. Easy check in. Only complaint is most Courtyards offer free coffee in lobby until 10am for guests. This one does not. Overall will return

We left a really bad hotel in the middle of the night and went to this hotel.. The women who check us in was so nice... She must have felt bad for us because when she saw my husband doing laundry at 3 in the morning with 2 small children she gave him vouchers for free breakfast.. By the way the breakfast was huge and good.. Hotel was nice and an indoor pool and hot tub with big sliders that opened to a nice outdoor area.. If we were not so bummed from the really bad experience at the previous hotel we could have enjoyed it better... We will be back for sure!!!!

Life isn't perfect. I get that. I travel all over the world and try to stay within the Marriott family whenever possible because the staff really really cares about their hotels even when life is full of twists and turns.

I get to NJ and decide to stay in a hotel for a long weekend before the house is clean and livable (on the road for 6 months this time). To remind me that there is no place like home, it was just one of those freaky weekends at this Marriott.

Check-in was delayed more than an hour because one of the children associated with the softball playoffs thought it would be fun to pull the fire alarm. Hung around outside and chatted up the ballplayers; these kids were really nice.

Finally get checked-in and have a great night's sleep on the awesome firm mattress in the lovely quiet room at the end of the hall. Just great. Want one of these mattresses at home. The room was quiet despite the chaos all around between the softball players and wedding parties.

Headed out the next morning and walked right into a wedding party of dwarves. No, can't make this up. It was cool.

What wasn't so cool was coming back Saturday evening to find the bathroom flooded. Because I just roll with it and am not nasty when letting staff know that things are a little unusual, I learned that the person in the room above had flooded the bathroom by not putting the shower curtain inside the tub. The engineer thanked me for not being a jerk about it. As if he could do anything about the person above me.

Come Sunday night, there's no hot water in the room. Although the hotel staff offered to move me to another room, it was late, I was tired and figured that there would be hot water in the AM. There was and off I went to work all fluffy clean.

On Monday evening there was no hot water, again. But the weekday staff person was able to explain the hot water problem. Let it run, says Erica, it will get hot; and it finally did.

Despite the bumps, I still really like this hotel because of the staff. Fantastic staff, great location, recently updated premises, easy highway access and close to THE world known as NYC. With the new train station less than a 5 minute walk away, getting to NYC no longer requires a car.

Thank you Erica, Nick & Kelly for your empathy and 'can do' attitudes. You just reaffirmed that, whenever possible, the nice people try to take care of each other. In the end, this hotel made it right in a way that was unexpected. It was truly appreciated.

For fellow travelers, this is a lovely hotel with a great staff. If you're not a jerk or demanding when stuff goes sideways, you might be rewarded in a most unexpected way, too.

Room Tip: If it's a busy weekend, don't be afraid to ask for a room away from the fray. It's poss...

Came in town to visit family. It was convenient and a nice place to stay. People were very friendly and accommodating. Make sure you make your RSVP well on advance of your trip as they fill up quick! Only thing that would be nice is if the had a shuttle.
