I recently dined at Tre Amici with my husband, daughter and my daughter's boyfriend, and was extremely disappointed. We've had several lovely dinners at Tre Amici in the past, so I was genuinely surprised when things went poorly. We arrived on a Saturday in late June about 7:45 pm and were seated at a table outside. We ordered fairly quickly, and were soon enjoying our appetizers. Our waiter cleared away the shared appetizers by 8:30, and we anxiously awaited our dinners. We waited until 9:10, when Chef Matthew's brother informed us that the restaurant had over sold the soft shell crab specials that we had ordered, and asked us to choose other entrees. Initially, we thought he was coming to apologize for the wait (and to tell us that our dinners would be served momentarily), so we were stunned to learn that not only would we not be served what we had ordered, but we would have to continue to wait!! We finally received our dinners at 9:30pm with a half hearted apology, and no offer to make up for the delay. Our entrees, which had always been exceptional in the past, appeared rushed and unevenly prepared, and our waiter disappeared until presenting us with the check at 9:50. Overall, it was an extremely disappointing experience.
Obviously, mistakes happen, and things go wrong, but a bad situation can be saved by a gracious approach and a sincere apology. Had we been offered dessert on the house (or some other gesture of good will), I would not be writing this review, and would be planning future trips to Tre Amici.
