My family have been renting summer cottages in lavalette since the 1950's. Super storm sandy devasted our rental community so we were not able to rent a cottage for our 2013 vacation. Our family wanted to support the shore during its construction healing phase (which is still continuing) so decided to stay at the Tradwinds. We were pleasantly surprised. The rooms were clean and tastefully appointed. Each room boasts a simple coastal canvas print, tile and carpeting, flat screen tv, mini fridge and soothing earth tones. The lodge is one block from the ocean, which boasts a pedestrian and bike walkway. Since our first stay I have been back numerous times. Along with my mother and beach family. IF YOU ARE A JERSEY SHORE LOVER TRY THE TRADEWINDS. You won't be disappointed the staff is lovely and eager to please.

Room Tip: Third floor has ocean view.

Grew up in Lavallette summers and much of the town is still as welcoming and homey as when I was a kid. First time at this motor lodge and nicely surprised. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Very clean. Our six yr old, as well as we, enjoyed the pool. Too hot most days for the beach, since we had no umbrella. Just a few minutes' walk. Colonial Bakery a few steps away - best crumb buns. The Oven has great pizza - right across the street. Ben Franklin's still in town - like an old 5&10 - great for almost anything you might have forgotten or just want to spend a little money on for a kid. Lots of Restore the Shore shirts all over. And now, after the Seaside fire, will probably have a new logo like Beating the Blaze! Make sure you get to the Crab's Claw - a favorite of many years and still great. Soft shell crabs were in season and terrific. Small fridge, but enough room to save you breakfast/lunch money. You have to get ice from the office, but always someone there to accommodate. Nice 2 double beds, lots of drawers in double dressers. Small table, 2 chairs. Loved the extra sink and counter.Spacious patio, unbrella tables for takeout. Pool was meticulously maintained. All in all - great 8-day stay.

Room Tip: Had a second floor room #21 right over the pool. A little less traffic than being on the first floor...

Stayed here for a wedding on the Jersey Shore and loved the location. I would view this motel as a Mom and Pop style. Don't expect the Hilton. It was clean. The people were friendly. The place has seen some updating since Hurricane Sandy. There is an outdoor pool, and a very large outside patio with umbrella tables. Our room, with 2 double beds was very spacious, with the amenity of a "dorm size frig". There was no blow dryer, however, one was available at the desk. This motel is only a block from the boardwalk and has easy access to the beach, boardwalk, various amenities of restaurants and shops.

This review is from our second stay at the Tradewinds. The rooms have been remodeled from last year thanks to Sandy. The new rooms are great. Modern look nice set up. Our last trip in 2012 was outstanding and our 2013 stay was even better (we stayed longer this time). The staff are excellent. The rooms are clean. You can walk to the beach in 3 minutes and to great restaurants and shops as well. Perfect location in Lavalette. The value for the room you get and the location is excellent. There is a clean pool that the kids seemed to love. The room has a small refrigerator which we stocked with breakfast and lunch items and ate dinner at some of the local restaurants. Just can't say enough about the staff, the cleanliness of the rooms and the location its perfect for us. Hope you enjoy your stay.

We were soooooooooooo happy the tradewinds was reopened this season so we could continue our yearly trips to the shore. We couldn't get down till this weekend and they were sold out which was a great sign. The rooms were all redone, they look great. The setup is better, nice flat screen tvs, new comfy beds and the furniture is really nice. The bathrooms are updated and look really nice. It was such great weekend, the staff is always so nice and everything was perfect. Can't wait or next year!! If you re staying with children I think the first floor is the best with the pool and the kids can have more freedom.

Room Tip: Room 14 on the firs floor has the extra windows b/c you are on the corner and it has an extra twin b...

We visited my hometown of Lavallette just to see how they were doing post-Sandy. I'd never stayed at the Tradewinds because I'd always stayed with friends & family, but I remember the hotel from my childhood. It was a happy surprise to find it to be very comfortable and a great bargain for the off-season price we paid in early June. Though the exterior still looked like the retro-cool spot I'd remembered, the room had clearly been updated and my husband & I enjoyed our stay and the very friendly owners.

Great place - Looks outdated from the outside but its a very cool retro-charming sort of look. The rooms look just like a normal updated "Hotel" with two double beds. Clean pool. Even cleaner rooms. All updated complete with a friendly staff to help. Location is great. If you have kids and don't wish to meet the cast of "Jersey Shore" then this is the right place to go. Nice restaurants with a short walk and we hit most of them. Great place. Only reason it didn't get five dots was because at $140 a night, I must reveal that I'm sort of cheap so that's why it only gets a "Very Good" rating.!
