“Great alternative to staying in Manhattan”

My wife and I stayed at the Doubletree Jersey City in February for a two night (Saturday and Sunday) stay. We decided we wanted to be close to Manhattan, but pay a more reasonable price. The Doubletree surpassed our expectations.
The hotel is easy to get to from the NJ Turnpike and their on-site parking lot (a few steps from the lobby) offers in-an-out service for $15 per day (out by 4pm on the last day).
The room we booked was a junior suite with a queen bed. When we arrived at 10am, we were too early to officially check-in, so the hostess 'blocked out' a "really nice room with a king size bed". We had the option of checking into a room with a "great view of New York" but had two double beds. We opted to wait for the King. We went into New York for the day and came back to the hotel late in the evening. Unfortunately, the room the hostess blocked out for us was not the room we got. We were put into a queen size bed adjacent to the elevator. Disappointing.
The room itself is modern, clean, comfortable and nicely sized. With microwave, fridge, coffeemaker, great bed, nice bathroom and chocolate chip cookies, it was exactly what we would want. Partial view of manhattan, but not something we cared about.
The hotel is a couple blocks from the Newport mall, a grocery store and the Path train (or ferry) to manhattan. The $1.50 ticket gets you to the city in about 10 minutes. Very convenient and safe.
Since our blocked room was not available, the hostess that helped us apologetically comped us breakfast in the hotel. A nice buffet selection of hot foods and continental choices. Expensive. It was a little cheaper to go to walk to the Marriot (next to the path) to get their buffet ($13.95) or drive to the IHOP.
We are looking forward to another weekend in New York in a couple months and we will stay here again (requesting a room away from the elevator this time).

We chose the Doubletree Jersey City, because it was close to the Path trains to New York city and that was where we deceided to spend Thanksgiving this year. My husband has always wanted to spend that holiday at Tavern on the Green, so we wanted the weekend to be special. The staff was very courteous upon arriving. Unfortunately, when we took the elevator to our room the keys didn't work. No biggie, went back to the front desk and they said they would work now. Went back to our floor, tried again, didn't work. To our suprise, we had disturbed a couple who were sleeping, they heard us finagling with the door, came out, mad of course....they said we were the third ones that evening to try to get into their room. They headed down to the desk with us in their pj's very upset, you can imagine. So..they reassigned us another room, only smoking was available. My husband was a little more bothered by that than I was. The room was still clean and the bedding was fantabulous! The highpoint for me. We had a corner room with a "partial view" of a few Manhattan buildings. Great air conditioning, and amenities; they have a great full length mirror. You have to pay to park in their lot. Location is steps from the light rail, and one stop away from a mall, in case you have a rainy day. Area seemed safe and has a lot within walking distance. Overall was a good experience.

Wow. I was so pleased with this hotel. We had a room with a king bed and a partial view of the city. We got a great rate by calling Doubletree directly. Our room was fantastic, really. The bed was comfortable and had luxurious linens. We had a small sitting area, dining table, fridge and microwave. I loved the bathroom because it had a special "bowed" shower curtain rod that gave more room for showering. They also gave us Neutrogena bath products.. nice. The towels were even nice and big. I have to say that I would recommend it to anyone. We were there to visit NY and so we walked 2 blocks to the Path train everyday. They have as shuttle, but it only runs on week days. It's a pretty easy walk though, and very safe. The staff were professional and very nice with the exception of one guy that ignored us while he had a personal flirting session with a female friend. Our car was safely parked on their property the whole time and we only paid $15/day. My one complaint is that there is no free internet access. They charge $10 to have access to their computer for a 24 hour period. I really have a problem with that and so we refused to pay the fee. They also didn't have a yellow pages for Manhattan, which would have been really useful for us since we could not access the internet. If you bring your own laptop, they do have WiFi in the rooms. Overall, I think this hotel is great and our stay there was really relaxing and comfortable.

“Excellent Choice, Easy NYC access”

Doubletree Club Jersey City

We stayed at the Doubletree Club in Jersey City as the price was very reasonable compared to NYC rates. It is only two blocks from the PATH trains into the city. You can also take the train one stop into Hoboken which is rich with restaurants, a great view of the city, parks to walk through and little shops. We found the hotel clean and comfortable, with friendly helpful staff. The room had two double beds and a pull out couch, desk, microwave and refrigerator. It would be nicer to have two queen beds. We probably should have requested a cot as there were 4 of us. The views vary by room. I have stayed here many times when I do busy in the area and always have a very nice stay. The restaurant's buffet breakfast was only average and on the high priced side. It is much more economical to hop on the PATH and eat in the city. Truly enjoyed our stay.

I stayed at the DoubleTree Jersey city a couple of times in October. I picked it because it is convenient to the business I am working with, but I was pleased with it all around. The rates were great - almost 1/2 the price of Manhattan rooms at the time. The location is good - only a short walk to the path station, which takes you to penn station & lower Manhattan and the light rail, which takes you all along the jersey side. The rooms were spacious suites & the treadmills in th gym were brand new and much nicer than any I am used to seeing in a hotel. I am going back in December and again, the rates are much better, so I will stay here. I would consider staying here even if I was spending most of my time in the city because of the rates and the easy access to the path.
