“Excellent Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2012

Stayed here for 5 nights in September and loved it. A walk away from the PATH train which takes you to 33rd Street in 15 minutes. Buy a metro card pre-loaded with $ and this can be used on the subway as well. The hotel is spotless and the staff are eager to please. I asked for a late check out and they were extremely obliging. The room was spacious with large comfy beds and great amenities. The shower was powerful and hot water constantly. I have stayed in Manhattan lots of times and this hotel was far superior.

There is a mall next door and lost of restuarants within walking distance. The view from the waterfront is spectacular. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

The hotel is very nice and clean. The rooms were perfect with very comfortable beds. The hotel is about 3 blocks from the PATH (Newport station), it costs 2$ each ride to go to NYC. You can get off at either World Trade Center, Christopher St, 9th St, 14th St, 23rd St and 33rd St. You can then take subway or taxi if you want to go somewhere else in NYC. The pool in the hotel closes at midnight so when you come back from the city you can enjoy it (most pools in hotels close at 10pm). Parking costs 22$ for 24hrs, right beside hotel. There is also a shopping mall you can access by parking. There is a Macy's, Disney Store, Banana Republic, etc. The only complaint I have is that there were not a lot of place to have breakfast aroud the hotel. There is a deli in front of the PATH station but that was it. There is a cuban restaurant near the hotel for diner but we didn't try it. The hotel is located near the marina and can walk by the water, with a nice view of NYC. So overall a nice experience, reasonnable price and good location. Cheaper than staying in NYC!

My wife and I were looking for a quick get away for our anniversary and selected the Westin which was beautiful. Instead of going to Manhattan we selected this hotel due to its Exchange Place location. The lite rail train allowed us to visit a few bars in the area with ease. The walk way on the water front allowed for beautiful views of the city. We had dinner at the hotel as well and enjoyed it. Overall a great little get away for 1 night. We would stay again for sure.

Stayed for three nights in an accessible room, clean & spacious, provided with shower chair and roll in shower, pool has hoists. Staff polite and helpful, particularly the Receptionist who checked us in, good Concierge who gave us lots of help how to get into NYC.Easy to get to Manhattan, used ferry from Paulus Hook a lovely 15 min walk from hotel along waterfront with great views of New York skyline which only took 8 mins to get to World Trade Centre site and wheelchair accessible (doesn't run weekends)Sat took PATH train from Paulus Hook (think there maybe a nearer one to hotel) only costs $2 wheelchair accessible but had to use telephone to ask where elevators were (across way in another building)Plenty of reasonably priced restaurants and bars near hotel.Got this hotel for the same if not cheaper price than some 1/2 star hotels in Manhattan, worth the extra travelling into NYC for a quality hotel in a really nice area.

I loved this hotel and will definitely stay here the next time I am in New York. When you hear Jersey City you don't think of the best area, but this area of JC is one of the nicest areas in the NYC metro areas. Everything was ultra-modern, clean, and staff was very friendly. Restaurant was a little over priced.

Stayed here for two night back in January. Room was clean and comfortable. Did not get bitten by bugs. Had one King sized bed and a little couch where my 3 yo daughter slept. She loved her little bed. The location is close to PATH station so it is convenient to go into NYC. Parking was expensive though, like $20 a day or something that like. But it is in Jersey City so parking fee is unavoidable.

I have stayed at this hotel about 10-15 times within the last 3 years and never had an issue with the staff, rooms, hotel etc. the hotel is perfectly located to the Path and convient to NYC.

I stayed in room 1817 in a double bedded room and slept in the bed closest to the window. I received 8 BED BUG BITES on my upper arm.( do a little Internet research and you will find that BED BUGS stay in one localized area)

I will NEVER stay at the Westin Jersey City Newport again! NEVER!

Leslie T, Assistant to the General Manager at The Westin Jersey City, Newport, responded to this review, September 12, 2012
Dear Mangopa,

Thank you for taking the time to review our property. The concern you raised is very understandable given the situation you described, and we appreciate the opportunity to respond.

The global resurgence of bed bugs over the last five years is a widely-recognized problem. This problem has affected not only the hotel industry, but hospitals, college dormitories and private multiple dwellings, as well. It is suspected that this resurgence is a direct result of increased international travel since bed bugs are easily transported in suitcases, purses and clothing, among other things.

To address this growing problem, Starwood mandates an aggressive pest control policy, which includes regularly scheduled professional inspections and, if necessary, elimination protocols. We have also implemented a thorough training program for our housekeeping and maintenance personnel to assist in the early recognition of infestation. These standard procedures require that the room in which a guest stays be quarantined and that it remain quarantined until a thorough inspection by professionals can be conducted. I want to assure you that we have fully implemented the policy and protocols here at The Westin Jersey City Newport.

The results of our investigation of room 1817, which included a thorough inspection of the room by Assured Environments, showed no evidence of a bed bug infestation.

Given the nature of our business, it is our expressed commitment to make every guest experience an enjoyable one. Their comfort and satisfaction are very important to us. Thank you again for your feedback and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to redeem your faith in our service.

If I can be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me. I can be reached at leslie.thompson@westin.com.
