“Great atmosphere BUT....”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2014

went here for a small party and the food was horrible! Salad had no taste, steak was as thin as good be, more of a steak for breakfast (steak and eggs) and what the heck was that sauce on the steak EW! What was with the "petite dessert"? Two small desserts that weren't enough for a small child. Glad I didn't have to pay the bill.

We are very frequent travelers both internationally and domestically for both pleasure and business and this the first time that I’ve ever been motivated enough to write a review. I’ve never been so disappointed in a bed & breakfast or hotel.

The toilet over flowed and flooded the bathroom, our keys got stuck in the door forcing us to check out early, the room was dusty, dirty and full of cobwebs and staff was unapologetic at best. We should have known better at check in when our keys were takes out of a sloppy jumble of keys and handed to us. Breakfast was dry and sloppy and the service at the restaurant was awful.
We later spoke to an annoyed manager who promised a discount off the exorbitant $280 rate we paid due to the poor experience we had. Low and behold our card was charged the full rate.
Staff and management just didn’t seem to care. I don’t know anything about the establishment but it just felt like staff and management have pretty much given up.
Save yourself the trouble. New Jersey and nearby Pennsylvania has a lot of great quaint and historic options.

We stayed 2 nights using a Living Social coupon at this large 23 acre complex made up of a number of historic buildings that have 17 overnight rooms. They also have a restaurant, tavern and facilities for weddings, meetings, etc.

We stayed in room 4 across from the grist mill (which houses the restaurant, tavern and some sleeping rooms). The rooms are sparse with colonial type furnishings. There was a queen sized four poster bed with an OK mattress and 4 pillows; a nice alcove with 2 wing back chairs; dresser and a small flat screen TV. There is free wifi in the rooms. The building is old and so the floors creak. Also in the building was a nice enclosed porch for sittng and a common area with chairs, books, fridge with free bottled water and they had muffins and granola bars.

The Inn is not handicapped accessible--there are a number of steps to climb depending on where your room is. In our building, there were 5 steps up to the front door and then across the way, 3 steps down to the main level of the grist mill building.

A very good breakfast is included--you have a choice of one main item--French toast, omelette, pancakes, eggs plus 3 other choices such as toast, sausage, bacon, fruit, granola.

The Inn is set up with a number of outdoor sitting areas, some around ponds. A lovely setting and we enjoyed our stay and plan to return in the future.

The Inn at Millrace is a beautiful restaurant and most of the staff is warm and friendly but don't want to stick around waiting on people. The restaurant food can be pretty pricey so we usually eat downstairs in the pub, which is a wonderful old atmosphere. The problem with the Inn at Millrace is that the staff seems to want patrons in and out fast. We have sat there waiting for drinks for awhile and it is a pub downstairs. Last time we were there the band started a little after nine on a Friday night. Our waitress seemed to ignore us and finally we got the message and left at about nine thirty. The band had only played a few songs and the whole downstairs was empty. When we walked upstairs to leave it was empty and the lights were off. We were wondering if this is what the owners want or if the staff is working too many jobs and want to go home early. This has happened the last two times we have gone there. The pub menu is very good at least.

All of the staff was absolutely amazing and willing to please. Both enjoyed the restaurant food and atmosphere. This is a historical gem. Our first night was in the gristmill itself and although the room was large enough and the bed comfy, the heating/cooling unit was loud. So, we asked for a better night's sleep and were moved to the original gristmill owners' home. Slept peacefully throughout the night in a canopy bed. Breakfast was tasty and plentiful. I'm glad we found the Inn at Millrace Pond.

Room Tip: Check the heating/cooling room unit for loudness. White noise is fine, but not rumbling.

Considering the price they need to update the rooms, the bed was extremely loud, basically had no cushion-made for a horrible nights sleep...never again... The restaurant was ok, menu extremely limited and food quite bland. The one thing I wanted they apparently ran out...

We stopped by here while walking across America, on The Great American Walkabout. It was a short distance from the Delaware Water Gap, and is a really lovely area and location. They were hosting a wedding reception when we arrived, and it seemed absolutely perfect for it. The grounds are stunningly beautiful, and the Inn itself is gorgeous. The place reminds me of a vineyard in Northern France. It has an old world elegance that is not so easily found here in the states.

The staff was really friendly and professional, and made sure that we had a good stay. We had walked over 3,000 miles to stay there, and they treated us like champions. The rooms were stylish and elegant as well, and I felt transported back in time to another era.

This is an excellent place for a weekend getaway, a nice night out in the country, or even for a wedding reception! It is on the West side of New Jersey, but really is only a short drive to or from the city, so definitely a place you should have on your radar. I would really love to stay here again, especially for a romantic rendezvous. Highly Recommend!

Room Tip: Tell them The Great American Walkabout sent you!
