“Who needs perfection?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2012

My daughter and I loved the "lived in" feel of our cottage. It was spotlessly clean, the shower was great and the location was perfect for the beach and restaurants. We had breakfast at the Deli round the corner, where the cakes were to die for! Then we walked to the beach at SandyHook, over the bridge, about 30 minutes pleasant walk. The distant view is Manhattan or the Atlantic Ocean, what a great place to unwind. There isn't much else to do, but we read our books, walked and enjoyed some good food.
The small courtyard round the back was ideal for a glass of wine before going out in the evening, and the street was very quiet so we slept well. Money well spent and only 45 minutes from Manhatten on the Ferry - loved it!

We stayed at the Nauvoo cottages for one nite. Ed was very accomodating, gave us the biggest cottage there and gave us the lowdown on nearby restaurants and bars. And being as know one was checking in the next day, he told us to check out when we want in th eafternoon. We walked to the restaurant for dinner, less than 2 mins away. Had a great meal & drinks on the bay. There is a convience store and breakfast/luch place a minute away. We spent both days at Sandy Hook beach, which is really nice. The cottage we had was updated and clean, tho the outside is worn looking and the courtyard is a bit unkept. For 1 nite or a wkend it is fine. Again, we appreciated Ed being so accomodating.

Although we loved the privacy the cottages offered, I thought it was way too expensive for the experince. There were consistant plumming problems, no dish soap, paper towels, and cultery. The cottage itself was cute and clean but super basic.

You really feel like you are on holiday in these brightly coloured beach huts-its hard to believe you are only 45 minutes from the city by boat from south street seaport! The couple who run it are most hospitiable and friendly...the perfect escape!!

My daughter and I stayed there to enjoy the end-October warm weather. The cabin we stayed in was perhaps worn on the outside, but hat's part of its charm; it was colorful with multi colors of paint on windows, doors, steps. The inside was recently renovated, clean and most adequate, with full bath, kitchenette and sleeping area. We loved the quiet of not having a tv. The place even included a begging cat! It is on a street corner that can get a little noisy, but we used ear plugs with no trouble at all! I would recommend this place because it offers more privacy than a B&B or a hotel. It is very convenient to the NYC ferry landing. Sandy Hook State Park is very close and is a wonderful place to spend the day. After September, the Park is free to enter.

  • Liked — Different than just a hotel or a B&B
  • Disliked — The shower curtain, at the end of the peak season, needs bleaching or replacement.

I just came back from Nauvoo where I stayed for the weekend with my husband. This place is the perfect weekend getaway, 1 hour away from Manhattan. The owner, Bill, is very nice, friendly, helpful and responsive. We stayed in the grey bungalow. It's a cute, CLEAN space, with everything you need. Minutes away from the beach and Highlands restaurants. BYOB ( bring you own bike!!) A definite YES!

Had a overnight stay in one of the cottages a few months ago while on a business trip to the area. Would not recommend to anyone. Cottage was not very clean and a bit damp. The gardens were obviously not taken care of in a long time and you do not even get breakfast for the $200 a night you are charged. Owner is not very friendly or helpful with information either.

  • Liked — Could walk to several restaurants
  • Disliked — the cottage
