Spent a night and round of golf to check the resort out for future golf girls weekend. Stayed at Mineral Springs hotel, played Ballyowen course and ate at the Crystal Tavern for dinner and Kites for breakfast. Also ate at Ballyowen course for lunch prior to returning home.
The hotel was not for me. Seemed to be more of a family place with lots of kids. Dated hotel with an old Holiday Inn feel. Kids seemed to like pool and facilities. After visit to Grand Cascades hotel, that is more appropriate setup for couples and girls setup. More upscale and adult oriented.
Food at Crystal Tavern started out with very good salad and appetizers but mains were just average value for money. Service was very good. Same goes for food and service at Ballyowen restaurant. Nice ambiance and good service, food fine. Kites for breakfast was cheap diner style food and service just ok. I wouldn't go back to that restaurant.
Golf was good. Ballyowen is a fine course and considering cost of golf nowadays, was reasonable value. Course was in great condition. Other courses looked in good condition too.
But, why no shower in ladies locker room? Also ladies choices in pro shop were limited. What's the story?
Overall good golf stop if reasonable distance, but I don't think it warrants a 2+ hour drive. I have better options.
