“Not worth the price”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2008

Check in took a very long time. There was a line five or six people deep and only one person working at the desk. People waiting in line to ask a question finally gave up as there was no one available to help. The concierge desk was staffed off and on during the day.

We always stay in suites. This was the smallest and the highest priced suite we've ever booked. The furnishings are nice enough, if rather oversized and dark for the space. The rooms get little natural light so that we had to have lights on even during sunny days. A light bulb was missing during the entire length of our stay. Although we watched very little TV, I noticed that the resort gets very few channels and no premium cable. The bedroom (and only) closet is tiny.

There was no parking available in the garage our first night.

The refrigerator and air conditioners are very noisy. Wedding parties in the hotel the first night caused a lot of noise after midnight.

The bathroom is a good size but has inadequate counter space. There is no hair dryer and the cosmetics were not replenished after the first day. We asked for additional towels which were not supplied. We had to request on two different occasions that housekeeping make up our room.

The resort shares facilities, evidently, with another condo/lodge site in the area. There supposedly are additional pools, golf courses, and tennis courts. We asked for a map; none was available. We asked for directions; no one seemed to know where to send us. We had to ask several times for information about restaurants on the premises. It is necessary to go to another building for breakfast although room service is available.

The grounds and pools are lovely but there were not enough lounge chairs around the pool for all of the guests. Some people went to the pool early in the morning to save lounges for their use in mid-afternoon.

The pool snack bar in not adequately staffed. It is quite possible to stand in line for half an hour in order to get a cup of coffee. The first day, I asked for coffee at about 11:00 am. It hadn't been brewed so I was asked to come back later. When I did so, they had no milk so I was asked to come back later. The next day, the coffee was cold so I was asked to come back later. This is not the treatment one would expect at a pricey resort.

Check-out was a lot faster than check-in, due perhaps to the fact that the woman behind the desk simply asked for my credit card and handed me a receipt. She did not feel is necessary to inquire about our stay.

I was looking to plan a 18th birthday party for my daughter whose birthday is on 08-08-08, wanted to do something special for such a special day. She works at the Jersey shore so wanted do to something other than the beach in August. We had stayed at Minerals in the past, both in summer and winter while snowboarding. We knew that a new hotel was being constructed, but when we arrived we were quite pleased to see our expectations greatly surpassed. We had enjoyed our stay at Minerals, very family oriented, great pools etc, but the Grand Cascades was over the top in luxury, service and beauty. We had the 2 bedroom suite with an adjoining room and another double, all were unbelievably decorated, great size and comfortable. The views, indoor/outdoor gas fireplaces, all the amenties you could ask for. The bathrooms and kitchens are to died for as well as the bedding. The staff was subperb, the facilities exceptional. I was traveling with 13 18 year olds, and they were so impressed with everything about the hotel. We totally enjoyed everything about our stay. I have already told everyone that I have spoken to since arriving home that the Grand Cascades is definitely a place that they should make a plan to stay at.

Three women escaping for 2 nights, we chose this hotel after reading reviews on SpaFinder, TripAdvisor plus a friend's recommendation and it was great. Only an hour from home but the mountain setting was beautiful. We shared a studio overlooking the putting greens and did not trip over one another at all. The kitchenette was really well-situated within the room. There was even a washer/dryer in a closet which was great to dry bathing suits. The decor makes it suitable to summer and winter without verging into cheesy ski-chalet style.

Hotel is fairly new and the spa is going to be finished this fall but we had great services at the spa on the sister property which was 5 minutes away by car. The other property has a more elaborate fitness center with classes but the one in Grand Cascades was very nice too. The best part is that the pools are set up so that some of them can be enjoyed all year or in bad weather. THe Biosphere pool looks like its in a greenhouse but is not stuffy at all, and has a hot tub, sauna and steam room and waterslide too. If you go and the weather cooperates, be sure to check out the other pool areas out past the pro shop. We almost missed them and that would have been a shame. The terrace outside the biosphere has stuff to do for kids/adults like pool, ping pong and foosball. We arent golf people but if you are there was no shortage of that. It is easy to see how great this place would be in the winter since its right next to the ski lifts.

Just keep in mind this is a resort so food prices arent cheap and there is not a whole lot of activity during the week. There isnt much to do in the evening but that was fine with us. We heard from the staff that the weekends are quite busy. For a close by vacation, it really fit the bill.

We just returned from a quick getaway at the Grand Cascades Lodge At Crystal Springs Resort.
I did not book the room before we arrived, wanted to see the Lodge first, as pictures can be deceiving.
The pictures did not depict how nice the Lodge was!
Upon arrival we asked at the front desk to see a room before we regisitered and were very pleased. The rooms were large, clean, and well appointed. The staff was very pleasant and accommodating.
We booked a studio with separate bedroom. The studio had a beautiful kitchen, with microwave, stove, fridge, dishes. Anything you need if you want to cook on your own. It also had a washer and dryer. Perfect if you are staying for a week. The living room had a fireplace and flat screen TV. The balcony had a beautiful view on the mountains and a lovely patio set. We sat outside with our breakfast, very relaxing.
The pools were very nice and I wish we could have spent more time there.
We had lunch and dinner at the tavern. Both times we had an excellent meal.
This was a spur of the moment quick trip for us, and we would definitely go back again. We left early and it took us about an hour to reach NYC.
My only suggestion would be to have coffee in the lobby in the morning. If you chose not to use the coffee pot in your room, you have to go to the Tavern to purchase coffee. The Tavern is a bit of a hike from the room. In the lobby they had a Bistro, which I hoped would serve coffee and muffins, but was closed.
