“Somewhere to rest”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2013

We only had a few hours to spend in Newark prior to our flight home and chose to spend it in a room at the Crowne Plaza, Elizabeth, Newark and booked a room with our Priority Club points for a guaranteed availability of 1100 arrival. The room was ready on our arrival and we were soon settled in a comfortable Executive Room with free WiFi, courtesy of my Platinum Ambassador status. Although we were only staying for five hours it gave us privacy and comfort. We had lunch at the bar and whilst the food was acceptable, the area can best be described as very tired with well worn tables and seats. Staff were delightful and looked after us well and I would recommend this place as a more comfortable place to spend five hours than an airport!

Wasn't up to other Crowne Plaza's levels that I have stayed at before, but for the price I think it was fair. I usually stay at the Renaisance at this airport, but this hotel was half the price so I decided to give it a try. My room was awesome, in great condition, and comfortable, but the rest of the hotel was lacking, especially the restaurant and the hotel shuttle service.

I am sorry we were not able to exceed or at least be at par with your expectation. I sincerely apologize for our shuttle service and restaurant services did not live up to your standards. This hotel is all about location. It is quite close to Newark Liberty Airport, and thus to whole metropolis transit system. The hotel bus runs to the terminal twice an hour, more or less. The physical location of the hotel is uninspiring. To get to a decent neighborhood for a walk, you have to cross nine lanes of traffic. Dinner in the hotel was adequate, and the service was alright, but certainly not a great value. The 'buffet' breakfast was so marginal that I just had a bowl of cereal, in the rather gloomy dining room. There is a twenty-four hour snack bar.
On the other hand, the rooms are quite nice, and have been recently renovated, although not what would be expected in a Crowne Plaza. It was clean and everything worked. They have Keurig coffee makers, which are great, but if you don't like their selection, you are sunk, and tea is right out of the question. The internet is adequate, however, I was logged off a couple of times, because, 'the maximum number of users was exceeded'. If you just want a room to sleep in for the night, this may be your hotel (although a bit expensive just for a bed), but I can't see any sort of longer stay being a positive experience.

The hotel is located close to the Newark airport. Among the options in the area, this is one of the lower cost hotels. There is a shuttle every half hour from the hotel to the airport (P4 off of the airport shuttle). It is very easy to get from the hotel to the airport (P4) to the NJ Transit and Amtrak station. Then, from there, it is a short train ride to Penn Station in NYC. A few things about this hotel:

1. There is a pool
2. There is a small workout center with weights, universal equipment, and treadmills
3. There is NO complimentary breakfast
4. There are no good options for restaurants within walking distance although the hotel has a restaurant
5. Basic room has fridge

The room was very clean and comfortable.

It was an over night stay before we moved to Double Tree Hilton, However it was not bad as the in hotel dinning was better than expected and the bar was good. However, the staff was bit less welcoming. Internet was complimentary which was a + point. Indoor pool and gym were good

Room Tip: Hotel pool area and gym is good. All rooms seems alike

Clean hotel, very kind staff.
The breakfast anyway is not that rich and also quite expensive for what you can get. I'm Italian, hence I'm demanding for the quality of food, and I had higher expectations from a Crowne Plaza hotel. Anyway, it was a good stay.
The very good and friendly assistance provided by the manager Ivonne was compensating all disadvantages.

There are closer airports but if you have to get a cab anyway, this hotel has a nice lobby, nice clean rooms, a restaurant and a coffee shop. What else do you need for an airport hotel? If you are fitness conscious, you have a gym and a pool too

Room Tip: I had a room on a high floor away from the elevator which is always my choice.
