“No free breakfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013

We always stay at Hampton Inns for the free breakfast. (not the only reason) Since Hilton Inn is listed on the Hampton Inn website, I assumed the practice would be the same. So I guess it's my fault for assuming. It's a beautiful place, almost oppulant. The room is large and clean. We haven't slept yet but our room is on the turnpike side and I can hear the trucks zooming by. If you are a light sleeper, you might want to ask for a room on the opposite side.

Room Tip: Ask for a room opposite the turnpike.

Dear FloridaLovetoTravel,

Thank you for the review of our property. It is true that we do charge for breakfast as all Hilton Garden Inns do. Hilton has several different brands. Some do offer free breakfast like Hampton, and some charge like us. I hope that you enjoyed your stay and will come back the next time you are in the area.

Our check-in was handled in a professional, friendly manner. After paying and upon presentation with our room key, we were notified that the hotel has a internet system upgrade underway which might and did effect our online access. While I understand this work must be done, wouldn't Corporate arrange for a temporary system to be in place eliminated any service interruption??? We corporate travelers are after all the bread and butter of your clientele and providing consistent internet service is a pretty high priority! But whatever................its fairly late and I want to go to bed. As we round the bend and head to the elevator bank for our trip up to the 5th floor, we are met with the strong and unmistakable odor of cigarette smoke. Its in the elevator lobby, the elevators and the stench is overwhelming as we step onto the 5th flr and begin our walk down the hallway to our room. Luckily our room does not smell. However the hvac system was turned off and upon entering, noted the interior temperature read 58 degrees. The room has one of those under window hvac units which warmed the room up fairly quickly. Unfortunately, this unit wasn't very quite and its constant cycling on and off throughout the night kept us from having a restful nights sleep! I normally enjoy Hilton properties as their beds are quite comfortable. That isn't what we experienced at the HGI as these beds are harder than normal and the economy version of a normally thick mattress topper offered at other Hilton properties was missing here. On the plus side, the room was clean (except for the coffee filter thrown behind the TV) someone really should have checked for that. The furnishings were in good shape and the mini fridge, microwave and coffee maker are nice touches.
Management needs to go over these rooms a little better as there were some issues with peeling paint on our ceiling and wall paper separation.
The hotel's stated policy found on their website is Smoking not available, however management either turns a blind eye to this as I suspect (see other postings) or we landed in the middle of a second hand smokers convention. Hilton guarantees your satisfaction or your money back. We'll see what happens regarding our comments made directly to the front desk. Regardless, the best satisfaction guarantee is knowing your reading this review and can look to book a different property in the vicinity immediately.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights. Overall the stay was very nice. However, there were a few things in particular that I need to point out.

The Negatives:

We were assigned a non-smoking room on the fifth floor for our first night. Once in our room for a few hours we smelled cigarette smoke which we thought was coming from the floor below. At 6 am, we finally woke up, no longer able to endure the horrible smoke smell. We went downstairs to complain and the friendly staff informed us that one wing of the fifth floor is smoking while the other side, which we were assigned to, was non-smoking. Our room happened to be two doors down from the smoking side. Do not allow them to give you a room on the fifth floor unless you are willing to tolerate the strong smell of smoke throughout your stay. We were moved to the third floor and this totally alleviated the problem. They also offered us free breakfast due to the inconvenience.

The pool looked a lot bigger in the website pictures. We got in just an hour before it was due to close and it was certainly in need of a skimming.

The positives:

The rooms were extremely large, very clean and spacious. Our room had a fridge, microwave and free internet. The breakfast was fantastic. Omelettes cooked to order with lots of other food choices. Everything was fresh and the buffet was well maintained. The coffee was one of the best cups I've had in a long time. Very impressed with the coffee. The staff is very friendly and accommodating.

And finally, a hotel with REAL up to standard exercise equipment! High performance, exercise machines were a huge plus! Most hotels list that they have an exercise room only to find a stretching chair and maybe a low quality half broken bicycle. Not the case with this hotel. I would give the spa/exercise room five stars if it wasn't for the dirty pool and sauna.

I would stay here again without a doubt.

Room Tip: Stay away from the fifth floor if you can't tolerate cigarette smoke.

This property lived up to the Hilton brand name! The hotel is well kept, well appointed, and clean. The staff are efficient & professional. If you have to visit this industrial area, this hotel is the way to go.

We needed a quick stopover while driving up the NJ Turnpike, and this Hilton Garden Inn fit our needs perfectly. The weekend price was great, the room was very comfortable, and the staff was very friendly. The hotel is extremely close to a highway exit, but you'll need instructions or a gps to navigate the spaghetti of ramps and roads to get there.

I stayed here for one night on business. I am glad that I did. Everyone is very helpful. I am on the road a lot in the fall, and the people at this hotel truly made me feel welcome. When they said to Make yourself at home, I really felt like I could. The breakfast was good, not free, but good. My room was very comfortable. In fact I slept very well that night (which is rare for me in a hotel).

I will be staying here again in October and November. Thank you for making me feel at home!

We stayed there for our wedding night and our guests as well. The overall experience would be 3 star. The grounds are average, customer service -average..Their shuttle service is not the best because they might forget to pick you up. The rooms are nice and clean.
