“Clean and good staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2014

The Common areas were very nice, the breakfast reasonable and staff v friendly. The room was the main dissapointment. Whilst the bed was v comfy the room was v small, and the walls need to be painted as looked v dirty.

Overall a reasonable stay for visiting someone in edgewater with friendly staff, and good ammenites (fridge, microwave, cable TV and breakfast.

I was hesitant about where to stay and wanted to please the wife, this was a great hotel because we wanted to get away from the hustle of NYC. The staff was helpful with checking us in and I didn't have current discount card but offered me a discount for another card that I had with me. The room was clean and breakfast feature was convenient.

Room Tip: The hotel is by the Hudson river so its a short walk from your room.

The hotel is right on the Hudson River. We had a lovely view from our room. The windows open, it was nice to have fresh air. The room was very clean. The bed was comfortable. The included breakfast was a typical hotel freebie breakfast. The staff was very accommodating. Parking was free. The hotel is located in a big parking lot that is shared with a strip mall, and Trader Joe's is a quick walk. The hotel is 2 stories, but has no elevator. Overall, it was better than expected.

Room Tip: Ask for river view.

We paid about $150/room/night before taxes for a king room and a little more for the 2 queens room. This was a great price compared with what else was in the neighborhood.

Above expectations: 1) The staff was really friendly and helpful. We were high maintenance on a few things, and they never seemed to get annoyed and smiled genuinely and helped us. 2) The renovated rooms with Hudson views were really nice and spacious. 3) Views on the Hudson side of NYC were gorgeous! 4) There's a nice patio out back to sit and enjoy the view, 5) There's a river walk right outside that felt safe during the day.

Only average: 1) Breakfast area is small with small choices, 2) The parking lot side is unattractive with huge parking lot next to a damaged ferry on the Hudson.

Tips: 1) This hotel allows smoking, make sure you ask for a non-smoking room if you need one. 2) I think the entire hotel has been renovated post-Hurricane Sandy, but just in case not, make sure to ask for a renovated room. 3) There is no elevator. 4) 25-30 minute bus ride to go to NY Port Authority bus station with bus 158. It cost $4.25 one way per person. Easy to catch the 158 back from Gate 301 at the Port Authority. You can buy a round trip ticket from the beginning so that you don't have to mess with it on the way back. We took it and back for an evening Broadway show and felt safe in both directions, even at night. 5) It's in the same complex as a Trader Joe's, so easy to buy some picnic food if you're saving $.

Room Tip: Get a non-parking lot, Hudson-facing room.

This hotel has many pluses but there are many cons which made our 3 night stay very frustrating.
First the pluses: (1) The hotel has a great location. It is only minutes to NYC. (2) Excellent hot breakfast. (3) Our room had a balcony with a great view of NYC. (4) The price was reasonable for such a good location.

Now for the cons - (1) No elevator. Our reservation was made well in advance of our stay and we definitely requested the first floor. This is major for us since we "seniors" get together regularly with our friends in the New York metropolitan area. (2) While the hot breakfast was very good, the dining area is very small and is usually crowded in the morning. The buffet line takes very long since some people make waffles and hold up the line until the waffles are done. As the tables were very few, we would have preferred to bring the breakfast to our room, but would have had trouble navigating the stairs back to our room. It was too hot to eat outdoors in the sundeck. (3) We had asked about complimentary shuttle service and was told it was available to take us to the ferry and to just come to the desk when we needed the service.
The day after we checked in, we were meeting friends for dinner and a show and went to the desk to request the shuttle service to the ferry. The time was about 5:05pm and were told the shuffle service is only available until 5pm. There is nothing in writing about shuttle service times and we had to wait for a taxi which meant we had to rush through dinner so that we could make our show on time. While there is a bus stop nearby for the 158 bus to New York, it was too hot to wait for a bus and it was the rush hour which would have taken forever to get into the city. (4) We really liked sitting on the balcony with our friends in the evening and enjoying the beautiful view. Two problems with that - one was that the back of the air conditioning unit gave off hot air right onto the balcony and two was that our neighbor complained that he could hear us on the balcony and we had to whisper so that we did not disturb him. Walls must be paper-thin since the air conditioner was running and we were talking in a normal voice.

I would rate this hotel as average because of the problems we experienced during our recent stay.

We checked in at 4pm, our room was unavailable, the maid was just entering our room and we would have to wait an hour, this wouldn't do after a 3 hour drive and plans for the evening. We took another room (not a suite as originally booked) and were charged the same price. We didn't have hot water for the shower....tepid, at best. The bathroom was tiny and most fixtures were loose. The room has a strange layout with a huge hot tub blocking your way to the bathroom and steps to go up and down. I wouldn't stay here again.

My brother booked this hotel for my husband and I last min and once we got there we was a little sceptical but ended up loving it. Breakfast was a big plus with hot food, very well done. The rooms are pretty nice and comfortable and the view is wonderful....but have learned they had two different supervisors, one for week days one for weekends. Im not to sure of the name of the weekday supervisor but we have noticed that she looked very unhappy every time we saw her and also noticed she did not speak good english. Big fail on hotels part because you need someone there who speaks fluent english when asking a question not someone who sends you to the front desk to ask one question. But we also learned your weekend supervisor spoke fluent english and always looked happy. We had a problem with one of our light bulbs in the room and she fixed it herself without any ones help. Big plus because we did not have to wait long. Also noticed that our room was cleaned as we walked in as if we just checked in awesome plus for us as opposed to a just half fast job during the week day. April the weekend supervisor new places to go and how to get there with no little to your front desk staff who just printed out ways to get to and from our destination and took us sooo much longer to get their. Julien was the only one who explained things to us and apologized for the women not sure of her name who just kept talking and talking and acted like she knew everything. Very poor on hotels side for not hiring someone who you can clearly see that doesnt want to be bothered with her job nor anyone else.
The housekeeping is good but again most did not speak any english at all and was difficult to communicate, very loud during the day by our room but nice and decent once you saw them.

The location of the hotel was very convenient to the city due to Julien and April help. We got to walk on the boardwalk they have in the back of the hotel with great views of the city. I would love to visit nyc again but I would suggest to everyone to set your days on weekends...because its very different on weekdays and you don't want a bad ora to follow you as you enjoy your journey there. My opinion to have Julien or/and April as a manager because they both went well above to explain things to us due to us coming from so far with no hesitation. Also extremely respectful. My husband is more than willing on setting them up with a managment position should ever they need one..but they would have to relocate :)

Other then that we had a great time visiting new jersey and new york. Would stay again but under different terms. Wish we can put an overview of our stay for weekdays and weekends but we cant. Hope you all your employees smile but thats pushing it.

Room Tip: As long as april and julien are working you will feel at home and wont worry about any room you have...
