“OVERDUE FOR RENOVATION”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2013

Looks great from the outside. The grounds are well groomed. Located off the highway (NJ Turnpike exit 9), making it convenient for highway travelers looking for an overnight stay. Lobby and hallway carpet along with the interior and flooring of the elevators are in dire need of replacement. The room and bedding were clean. Bathroom okay, except the tub was old and lost its luster years ago. The drain was partially clogged, and the tops of the lamp shades (easy for this 6'4'' to see) hadn't been dusted in months. Pool area and gym were adequate, but the whole area - like most of the hotel - is also in need of a deep cleaning. Since our stay was a quick in and out and the price was right, the stay was okay (reason for three stars instead of two) . However, would not stay here for longer than an overnight. Having to pay $8.00 dollars a day for parking in the middle of no-where was also disappointing.

BED BUGS.
Let me begin my circus of horrors by stating that I have been a LOYAL Hampton inn & Hilton customer for over a decade. I have NEVER in my life dealt with what I am about to describe. Actually ive RAVED about both hotels to all of my friends and recruited many new fans for the Hilton company. Last week that campaign came to a grinding halt.
My mother in law had been planning a family reunion in NJ. The reunion would include 25 members of the family using 9 hotel rooms. Of course we'd book a Hilton. Hiltons are known for their quality, their %100 satisfaction guaranteed, their hospitality, their cleanliness, their great restaurants and more.
We all happily gathered at the east Brunswick Hilton hotel in NJ. Family members flew in from 4 different states. We decided to have dinner at the hotel café restaurant. All 25 of us settled into our tables - adults at one table and kids at another table. There was ONE other table of customers in the café.
Here is what we experienced in the restaurant :
No menus, water or bread for 15 minutes. Our entrees arrived TWO HOURS after we arrived. Yes that's right I said ENTREES. We still hadn't received appetizers, soups or salads. Also it had been TWO HOURS and my water glass had been filled ONCE. The rocket scientist waitress decided to serve the ADULTS table BEFORE the kids table. The kids table ranged in ages from 8-16. Do you have any idea how difficult it is to keep a hungry kids table busy for over two hours while they wait for their food ? even worse is that she served only about 2/3 of the adults table. The people who were served ate their entrees, FINISHED their entrees and still had not received their appetizers. The remaining 1/3 of the people at the table had still not been served ANYTHING. While this was going on, the kids table started to be served, little by little.
Anyone who ordered steak received cold raw steak no matter HOW they ordered it.
The pasta I ordered didn't come with chicken the way I asked. It was actually worse than something you'd throw together from old leftovers found in the back of your fridge. After most of the table reluctantly finished whatever they could stomach - oh guess what ? the appetizers come out ! horrible soups and salads. How do you mess up a salad ? this hotel can do it for sure.
I looked at my watch and saw that our appetizers were now arriving THREE FULL HOURS after we entered the place. The waitress brought the check. We called the manager over and I told him about our nightmare meal. He did exactly what I expected a manager of a Hilton company to do. He actually COMPED us the ENTIRE MEAL. Ok maybe they were just having a bad day. I know this is a luxury problem. Everybody has bad days and this guy totally did the right thing plus we were with family and we were all so happy to see each other.

It was time to retire to my room. It was long day of traveling and we were all tired. I was really looking forward to a long bath. i opened the shower curtain to find a disgusting filthy ring and hair around the tub. Ok fine im too tired to deal with this I'll take a shower. Now its time to get into bed. One of the beds was totally broken and lopsided so we used the other bed. Still not a huge deal. We can work with this. By this time, im annoyed again but im more tired so I'll just try to sleep. The next photo is what was CAUGHT scurrying across our bed sheets. We did the google image match. Yes ladies and gentlemen you guessed it - A BED BUG. In OUR BED. We gathered it up into a pill bottle and went to my mother in laws room. The three of us called the manager who told us she would need to contact a woman named ann tilelli. She was the director of operations at this hotel. we packed our things and left. It was 4am and we didn't want to wake the rest of the family plus we needed to find a place where they could all come to once they woke up in a few hours. We got out on the road and returned to my mother in law's house 90 minutes away. The three of us stripped naked in the parking lot, bagged all of our belongings and took them to the basement of her building. Some things we washed, some things we threw away. We had heard of people who had bedbugs and knew this was nothing to mess with.
Around 8am we started calling the rest of the family to let them know they could arrive where we were and do the same : strip, wash, throw away, decontaminate. This was TWENTY FIVE people that had to take silkwood showers at my mother in laws place. TWENTY FIVE PEOPLE that had to throw their luggage away and bag up their belongings. DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL.

Room Tip: rooms were filthy and had bed bugs.

This group was planning to have a family reunion party in one of the booked suites without informing the hotel management team. It is against the hotel policy to conduct a party or to have very high occupancy inside our sleeping rooms. They asked for banquet chairs and tables to be sent to the rooms. The request was denied and two security officers were sent to the room to break down the party because we had a lot of guest complains from the neighbor rooms.
On the same night the entire 25 people in addition to 15 kids went to the Cafe restaurant without any reservation or notice. Any hotel restaurant cannot serve this number of people in a timely manner at the same time without advance notice. Keep in mind, the hotel was sold out and we had a lot of reservations in the bar at the same time. There was a delay in food delivery and the guest asked to speak with the restaurant manager. While they were discussing their service issue with the restaurant manager, they were threatening him by putting everything on the Social Media. As a courtesy the restaurant manager decided to comp the entire meal for the whole family which was $700.
Early morning, next day they came to the front desk and they were very hostile to the night manger and showed her a bug in a medicine bottle that looked to her like a tick. They asked the night manager to comp off all 10 rooms and moved to a Hilton in Long Branch at the hotels expense because she found a bug in one room! they refused to leave the bug with the night manager to show it to the pest control company. On the same day Ecolab the most famous nationwide pest control company was called to inspect her room. Shockingly, the Ecolab report came negative from ant type of pest in her room. On July 15th this guest called and complained to Hilton only about the hair in the tub and one of the beds was lopsided. She did not mention any thing about the bug or the food issue. We also communicated with many rooms from her group members upon their checkout who praised the hotel and they also said they had a wonderful stay. It is sad that some people use social media as a threat for not getting a free stay.

Front desk staff not accommodating to with regard to Hotel created problems. When our room was not ready after 3pm we were downgraded to a room near the elevator after asking to be given a room on Executive Floor as compensation. we were told by Manager it was "against Hilton policy" to upgrade Silver Rewards category customers. Even though it was the Hotel's fault our room was not ready. Instead, we got downgraded to a room near the elevator because the room that was supposed to be ready for us was not.

My husband and I stayed at the Hilton East Brunswick last week for 3 nights. We were on the top floor in the executive suites and were not impressed with the air conditioner. It was very hot and sticky the entire stay with no relief. It was so humid in the room that when you got under the sheets to go to sleep the sheets felt wet and damp.

The pictures of this hotel must have been taken a long time ago. The hotel was clean and the bed was comfortable but the place was a little run down. There were a lot of chips and scratches in the furniture and the bath tub had black stain on the bottom. The faucet leaked and there was no fan in the bathroom.
I also found it odd that there were two beds in the room but only one blanket was provided. The housekeeping staff did bring another when requested but you would think they would have enough from the start.
I also feel if you are staying in a hotel, that parking should be free. If I had known it was an additional cost to park, I would have stayed in a different place.

Enjoyed the hotel, paying for parking isn't ideal, but only $8/day is not bad. Gym is good with plenty of cardio equipment, pool looked nice and separate weight area was good too. Executive lounge is a bonus for HHonors members, but alcohol is cash. Would definitely stay here again in the area.

Room Tip: Stayed higher up near the elevators was fine for me.

Never I have I encountered a Hotel with such good and bad attributes. Two of the employees were among the nicest I have encountered. Another is by far the most irritating. The room never got cool and was humid to the point of paper in the room being saturated. No refrigerator in a Hilton room?? seriously??
